This is Patrique Cohen Aknin, from France , another skilled  violinst, a virtuoso and  a conductor,!

I think that in the last 3 uploads I was able to express( in photographs) the feeling of music,   the feeling of musicians while performing! Thanks to the great Baroque era  concerts, and musicians!

 Thanks for viewing.

I'm always fascinated with musicians and music because it is a realm of which I have no comprehension or ability. Other than being a great writer, I don't think there is anything I would rather be than a skilled musician.  You've capture some passion here, and that's a good thing.

Hi Pnina,

Yes, I get the feeling of this musician being totally absorbed in the music the he's playing. I like the way you've captured some sense of movement in the lower half and hand of his bowing arm. The lighting and your camera angle makes him stand out well against the dark background.

Well done!

Mike

Pnina, this is excellent.  The musician is totally focused on his music, and you were totally focused on capturing a great moment.  Bravo to you and your subject.

His face radiates a quiet and deep joy that is so nice to view.  Great crop and beautiful slight movement of his arm with nice light falling to guide our eyes

Lovely shot, Pnina, perfectly composed. Did you have free access to the musicians or did you have to kind of take pot luck? This appears to be a rehearsal so I'm guessing they allowed you to come in close.

Thanks,  I constantly photo the Barrocade Ensemble, in rehearsals and concerts. while in  rehearsals I'am on stage with them, and it is easier to photo their feelings while playing.

Of your two current posts of violinists I prefer this one.  There is a connection in this one between the artist and the sheet music by virtue of the direction of his eyes. A virtual line between these elements is established.  The lighting pattern on the woman's face is more portrait like but for me the disconnect comes as she seems to have her attention directed to some other object off camera. (possibly this conductor?)  The sheet music in this one provides the fill necessary to help illuminate this man's face.  (luck is good!)  Also, all the elements are displayed here, artist, instrument,  & sheet music.  The very slight blur of his right hand adds a desirable element of motion, preventing the static quality of a perfectly sharp image and thus completing this environmental portrait.   Gotta love the sharpness in all of the stationary elements though.  Also, any hot spots should respond to manipulation in Photoshop if so desired.  Would probably print well.  Best, LM.

Thanks for your nice explanation of your impressions,I love all 3 musicians that  I nearly lost...I checked my raw files  again, and saw the 3 of them that I did not  refer to in  the first PP( the flutist) .As usual I'm thankful for your visit and comments!

I know I commented on this once, but I must not have hit the confirm button.  I often fail to do that.  :-)  I love this shot, Pnina!  It's hard to get good shots of violinists because of the awkward positioning.  I like how you've slightly cut off the scroll and his right arm, as well as any other elements on stage.  This brings the viewer into his space......like we're watching him practice alone rather than performing with a group.  The lighting and tonality are great.....I like his grayish shirt with his gray hair against the background.  His eyes are soft, yet focused, and you've even managed to get some catch lights in his eyes.    He's in a relaxed position, and he really seems to be enjoying the music.  A fine effort!

Completely unrelated to your image, I don't understand how these baroque musicians play.  I can't do it anymore.  They don't use a shoulder rest, which most traditional violinists use.  It goes between the shoulder and the violin, and it props up the violin so you don't have to lean your head over as much as he's doing.   It hurts me to watch him!  It stinks....getting old!  :-)  But it's a great sound to hear a fine ensemble using period instruments.  How nice that you have access to them as you do.

Thanks for your such a nice impressions, remembering that you are a violinist as well, created an extra importance to your written words.(I'm 2 days past a cataract operation so sorry for being late)...I have no answer to the way they hold the violin, but it is a point worth exploring, I will ask...;-)) in any event I agree with you about getting old.....;-)) thanks again!
