A very pleasant nautical harbour scene. The composition is good from a proportional viewpoint and the small boat is positioned quite well in a thirds section of the photograph. Just one or two little points might have made an improvement. The boat points out of the image, it would have been better placed to the right (still retaining a thirds position) with the front of the boat pointing into the shot. This invites the viewers eyes to move across the image, though it isn't as crucial in this image as the boat isn't percieved to be moving. You have clipped the reflection of the boat, this would have been better intact. The last point relates to depth of field and focus. The background is out of focus, now this is very much a matter of taste, some people would have a view that it concentrates the viewers eyes on the main subject. Personally I think distant focus interest would have been better served with the background clearer. I think your f10 setting would have achieved that without too much trouble but you need to take care to make your focus point roughtly about 1/3 of the distance into the image. Good balance of light and colour too, this area looks like it has good potential for some great photographs. I hope this helps.

Best Regards

Alf

Alf, Many thanks for your invaluable advice...it is precisely for this reason that I post.  All of your comment make total sense, will have to put them to the test! I will see if i have another shot of this boat at a different DOF. Kind regards, and thanks again, Liz

Liz,

Many thanks for your recent visit to my gallery!

I can't critique near as good as Alf already has, and he has covered all the bases it appears!

I do wish all the reflection of the little boat was showing in the foreground!

Still, a very nice and appealing image!

Regards,

Jim j.

Lovely rich colours! A very nice shot which could have been improved slightly by a slight change in position to place the boat further right. Very nice though!
