Hi Amy

They are either very blurred butt cheaks or the blurred close-up of a face with closed eye?

Care to put me out of my misery?

Hi Amy,

I enjoy your "Human Landscape" work using the Finepix X100 camera with its 23mm F/2 lens.

While the Finepix X100 23mm F/2 lens is quite sharp (I know because I tested the lens with and without the camera in my optical facility) , I have a suggestion for your "out of focus" images shot at F/2.

I would take aluminum foil and use a very fine pin to make a very small hole in it. Now, placing the aluminum foil in front of your lens , you will essentially simulate an old fashion "lens-less" camera.

The natural blur , due to the "diffraction" properties of light, will give you an unsharp image formed in a different way from  defocussing your camera and lens. Using various working distances , you can get some very interesting abstract effects that would be quite unique.

You leave your lens set to F/2, because the small hole will furnish an F-Stop greater than F/200, which is a good starting point. Your exposures will be much longer.

Best Regards,  Mike
