Wayne Sadler 582 Posted June 5, 2011 Normally the beauty of flowers distracts me from the work of composition and design. The color of this iris is the most unappealing in my garden, so that is probably why I am drawn to photograph and interpret in odd and sometimes grim ways. I am beginning to like this iris for what it is not. I would appreciate comments and critique. Link to comment

harlequin 0 Posted June 6, 2011 I have some iris nearby that I feel the same about. They are a beige and gold color, but I have made some very interesting shots from them (check my portfolio in the iris folder and a couple of the others for abstracts). I like the color and detail you have captured. I might have cropped more off the bottom but it works this well as well. Somewhat Georgis O'Keefe in style. Nicely done. - Charles Link to comment
Wayne Sadler 582 Posted June 6, 2011 Thanks Patsy, Charles and Claude. Thanks for appreciating my odd take on flowers. Charles, I see you too have some of the same "ugly" irises - but you make them look better than I do. I debated hard cropping at the bottom. Check my thinking on this - I decided leaving a little of the green at bottom left gave more of a vignetting effect and not cropping more allowed the darker tip of the petal (a little right of center) to add contrast to break-up some of the dirty, yellow, brown petals that dominate the lower third of this image. Claude, always an honor. Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 5 Posted August 30, 2011 Wonderful and moody image! I could never not like an Iris...I have tons in my garden. This September I need to divide and give away to share with my neighbors; we will have a beautiful street! :)I like the smoky colors...it seems to be beckoning you to come forward...come closer and yet it is with apprehension that it does so...Beautiful work. Thank you for sharing. :) Link to comment
