alfbailey 4 Posted April 4, 2011 ALBERTOI'm really pleased you liked this one, many thanks for your kind words.Best RegardsAlfMICHAELSincere thanks, it was a scene just begging to be photographed, who was I to refuse : - )Cheers Mike!AlfBENMany thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, much appreciated. The three dots you can see are more "stix" in the far distance, but on reflection I think your right I should have cloned them out.Best RegardsAlfSARAHI'm really pleased you liked this one and very honoured you consider it a favourite. This is a favourite location of mine for this type of shot, but the chances of happening upon it when the receding high tide and setting sun coincide are very rare, particularly when theres such nice colour in the sky. Many Thanks for your visit and encouraging words Sarah!Best RegardsAlfKARALOSSincere thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, much appreciated! As described above, all the elements contrived to come together and present the opportunity, I just happened to be there and take full advantage of what nature provided.Best RegardsAlfEL Thank you so much for your enthusiastic and very encouraging comments. I did use a 6 stop ND filter, just to give a few seconds longer to the exposure, sometimes it can be a bit hit and miss with these things, but it seemed to pay off this time.Hope you had a great w/eCheers El !Alf VOLKERSincere thanks for your detailed and well considered comments. As described above, I was fortunate that all the elements contrived to come together to make this shot possible. The high tide coinciding with the setting sun is rare, particularly when theres such colour in the sky. There is probably 20 minutes in total when the sun and the tide are at thier optimum level, in which to get the shot. I think we both share a passion for the same types of images, and I'm very honoured that you consider this one a favourite.Cheers Volker!AlfJANMany thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, very much appreciated!. I sometimes think I'm so busy photographing the scene, that I don't probably enjoy the moment of serenity as much as I should. To be honest I get so excited when I see the possibilities for a photograph, that I tend be making adjustments to apertures. filters and settings, in an effort to take full advantage of the window of opportunity available. But observations the like of which you have made, reminds me of the mood and the moment, and I can enjoy it in retrospect.Best RegardsAlfMICHELSincere thanks for your visit and positive feedback , much appreciated! Some things just seem to connect people, buildings, animals, even cars, and I think the "dissapearing world" impression that you describe could wel be the connecting emotion for you in this scene. I'm very honoured it touches you.Best RegardsAlfTIBIMany Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback I'm really pleased you like it. You are right of course there are many images similar, it's difficult to be original taking this type of shot. But as we don't get multitides of nice sunsets I suppose the opportunities for such shots are limited in the UK, particularly when coinciding with an outgoing high tide. So I couldn't resist the opportunity.Cheers Tibi!AlfRUUDThank you for stopping by and offering your continued support and encouragement, much appreciated!RegardsAlfAZUREMany Thanks : - )PATSY I'm really pleased you liked this one and appreciate you positive feedback. Thank you!Best RegardsAlfLESTERSincere thanks for your imput and encouraging comments, I got lucky with the timing I think.Best RegardsAlfPAULMany thanks for your thougtful and positive comments, much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfMARJOLEIN Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and offering such posiitve feedback, much appreciated! It's a pleasure to share the settings as follows:-Tripod, Focal Length 16mm, Aperture Priority, ND 1.8 filter (6 stop), 30 secs @ f22Best RegardsAlfKEITHI'm very honoured to receive such praise, my humble thanks!Cheers mate!AlfBILLMany thanks for your very kind comments, I suppose I'm a bit of a fraud now and I should change the introductory notes on my profile. I first picked up a camera of any kind in 2007 and then a DSLR later that year, so probably been at it 4 years this coming August.....hardly new any more, but then not a seasoned veteran either : - ) Thats great work your doing Bill, keep it up!Best RegardsAlfANABELA I'm really pleased you liked it, and thank you so much for your very kind words.Best RegardsAlfSTEVESincere thanks for your vote of confidence Steve, it really is appreciated. Doesn't it always seem like the last stop on the way home is always the most productive, and on the last stop it's always one of the last shots you take that turns out best........why the hell can't I take that shot first thing in the morning and have a short day : - )Cheers Steve!AlfDROR Many thanks for your interest and positive feedback!I think it got a bit better by using your "High Pass" sharpening technique : - )As for West Brom game.....least said the better.......I'm still in sulking mode! : - ( lolCheers Mate!AlfRAGHUVEERMany thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback, much appreciated! I'm not sure about the cyan, to be honest, it could just be an effect of the prevailing light.Best WishesAlfPIERRENot like you to miss it first time! : - ) My sincere thanks for your positive comments.Cheers Mate!AlfGRANT I'm really pleased you liked this one. As I commented to Steve above, it always seems like the last few shots of the day when I get the best results, I know the light plays a big part in that, but I can't help ponder why I never seem to get that kind of light, no matter how early I get up.I'm very honoured you consider it a favourite Grant and thank you sincerely for your feedback.RegardsAlfGRIGORY Sincere thanks, I appreciate your encouragement and feedback.Best RegardsAlfTOREWell I don't mind at all that you said it again ;- ) Sincere thanks!Best RegardsAlfJAN Many thanks for your thougtful feedback. The black spots are other posts in the distance, but I think your right, if I was going to print this I'd remove them.Best RegardsAlfZSOLT You are so right, and I guess this is where my heart lay. Many Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, much appreciated!RegardsAlf Link to comment

swede621 0 Posted April 6, 2011 Hello Alf,As we have come to expect, this is yet another great landscape. I especially love the tone and colors on this one. Compostion is excellent as always. The shallow water near the shore has a somewhat "blurred" effect. Did you add that? I really like it. Just curious. Cheers...Jerry Link to comment

alfbailey 4 Posted April 6, 2011 TONY Many thanks for your vote of confidence, very much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfVOLKER "Great Minds think alike" : - )AlfLINDA Sincere thanks for your interest and very flattering comments, I'm really pleased you enjoyed viewing it..Best RegardsAlfJERRY Many thanks for your interest and continued support, very much appreciated. I got lucky with the colours on this particular evening, the day had seen a misty horizon out to sea and I thought it was going to be cloudy and dull in the evening, but the mist cleared and the glowing colours appeared. As for the "Blurred" effect, it is the result of the long (30 second) exposure. Nothing added in processing. What you can see is the leveling effect that happens "in camera" as the sensor records the movement of the water. The water here would have sent 4 -5 waves onto the foreground stones within the 30 seconds. If you haven't tried it before you shouild really have a go at long exposures, you can great effects from water movement or clouds or a combination of both. And of course I'd be pleased to forward any information you need to give it a try.Cheers mate!AlfKAUSHIKSincere thanks for your enthusiastic and very complimentry feedback, much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfKALLOLThank you for your interest and positive feedback. Interesting that you mentioned perspective, I took perhaps 40 shots of the various poles dotted along this part of the shoreline, but only really liked 3-4 of the results, simply because of the perspective and angle of the shots. This was one of them.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
tonyfrench 0 Posted April 7, 2011 Alf, I agree with everything that has been said in terms of the beauty of this. I particularly like the way the rocks slowly disappear under the translucence of the water. And when will we see the street shots you took earlier this day? Link to comment
andrea-de-bonis 6 Posted April 7, 2011 excellent, alf. Starting from a great moment of the day, a stunning light and a correct composition, you obtained a very magic photo. the water's transparence, the light's temeperature and the vertical elements gives an unusual depth to this image. our eye goes to the horizon, but . and this is the point of excellence for me - not following a direct line, but with a rotation from right to left. you ofeers something dinamic, a sort of virtual tour at 360° Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted April 7, 2011 Excellent image Alf! Love the blue tones, and fabulous gradients in the sky. Superb minimalist work! All the best,Neil Link to comment
ray.koushik 0 Posted April 8, 2011 wonderful colors and composition. only the 3 dots on the left edge (in the middle, vertically) are a bit distracting. compliments -koushik Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 8, 2011 Indeed this is an outstanding capture by all means. The slow shutter speed effect on the water is remarkable and the tones here are given so pleasant atmosphere to the place, an image which is so quick connecting with the viewers and given so pleasant feeling.Thank you my friend for sharing it and wishing you all of the best. alfbailey 4 Posted April 8, 2011 TONY Many thanks for your interest and positive feedback, much appreciated! As for the street shots, well hopefully I'll post one or two of them over the weekend if I get time, and of course I'd value your opinion about them too if you get a chance.Best RegardsAlfANDREASincere thanks for your thoughtful analogy and very kind words. These long exposures can have a variety of effects depending on the shutter speed, I was fortunate that there was a great deal of colour in the sky on this particular evening.Best RegardsAlfNEILMany thanks for your visit and positive feedback, much appreciated. I noticed your brave deviation from your normal landscapes Neil and I too have had a dabble elsewhere, but with street photography (which I thoroughly enjoyed) but it's good to get back to what I know and love.Cheers Neil!Alf KOUSHIKMany thanks for your interest and positive feedback, much appreciated. I agree I should have cloned out the dots, but initially they did look more interesting on the full sized version (these are also poles in the distance) But if I was going to print it, I would perhaps clone them out.Best RegardsAlfRASHEDGreetings! Thank you for your interest and kind comments, much appreciated! I am really pleased you connected with this and that the atmosphere was conveyed as I wished.Kind RegardsAlfRICHARDThanks for looking in, I do appreciate your visit and positive feedback.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment

jim_air 0 Posted April 11, 2011 The detail in these wet stones is marvellous. The range of different hues in the sky looks subtle and terrific. We are told not to put the horizon in the middle of the picture - but here is the exception which clearly shows the rule can be broken to the best of effect. Thanks again for your suggestion about long exposures for my recent image.Warm regards, Jim Link to comment
