Thanks for your comments. It got above freezing today so I enjoyed a

little photography late this afternoon with my sigma 10-20mm.

Hi Tony:

It's warm here too in northern Ontario. I wish winter would be on or off, no inbetween.

This is a beautiful photo.  Great diagonals. Love the colour.

Regards, John

Hi John, it is good to hear from you. It is supposed to dip to a high of -5 and a low of -12 tomorrow so we are back to winter. I did enjoy my 35 minutes (last images taken were about 10 days ago) of image taking today and not have to wear gloves. A little further to the left some orange rays on a blue background on the shiny surface was what attracted me to this location and this image was an afterthought. I am glad you liked it.

Very much of an engineered composition in here and the reflection is remarkable and adding a great interest to this well lit image and under such hard to control climate condition, again my friend your proved to be a superb  photographer with great kill and talent to deal with your subjects under all sort of conditions.

Great job, thank you my friend for sharing it and wishing you all of the best.

Lovely reflections in the pathway on this milder Friday than we have had in some time Tony.  Good to see you took advantage of it.  We have had it quite windy all day, and right at the moment the winds are near 100kph. Really noisy out, we've a huge old elm in our backyard, sure hope none of the branches break off.  When you get cold, look at this shot and remember, yes, spring will come.  Kindest regards, Gail

Tony, the image is appealing and refreshing to me for composition and nuances of colors. The way you have  diagonally placed the blue placid water with reflection of trees, is admirable Cropping the trees to emphasize on the pattern  created by light & shade is very interesting. The pale orange color of the sun-rays on white snow contrasts well with the blue water.

Wonderfully composed, and seen.  The cool tones go well with scene, and the temp.

Keep in mind... Spring... springs, as in boing, boing back into summer.  When the crocuses re-appear you will know that spring is really back again.

Nice angular composition with warmth of sunlight on the snow... yeah, spring  get closer... well done!

Also, thank you for your recent comments.

Hi Tony,  Not many people would cut trees off at their base in capturing a reflection.  You have an excellent eye.  The reflections define what the photographer denied. Excellent shot, Tony.  As always, I send you my best wishes.  Larry

The reflection has the appearance of a wall or fence made of glass, I think the angle of the reflected trees produces this illusion.  Beautiful light and colour in this well seen and creative image.

Rashed, Gail, Jim, Patsy A.K., Dave, Grigoriy, Larry: Thanks you for your kind thoughts and identifying what you like about the image.

This is a single shot and my only disappointment  is that there are a couple of weak orange beams of light on the shiny blue surface which might have shown up better if I had used a circular polarizer but that may have deepened the blue and I would not have wanted that.

I did pay particular attention to this composition but I took a few other images at this location that do not look like this where my focus was the beams of light on the shiny surface. Thus far I am not satisfied with the result so I have not uploaded them.

All the very best,

I can see this is a well thought out composition, the converging lines of the canal and the shadows / lightbeams making for a visiual delight. I must confess I would never have thought of this particular angle, but I do like it. I notice you shot this at 18mm but I'm curious to see a wider view, the fan shaped light of further light beams top right look equally fascinating and attractive. Altogether a beautiful combination of warm and cool elements.

Very well done Tony!

Best Regards

Alf

you're a busy shooting bee.  This photo works very well.  The warm light and tree shadows crossing the reflecting water... Well seen.  The diagonal lines make it look more dynamic.  Hey, pour yourself a glass of V8, will ya?  Cheers, Micheal

Your visits and comments are always welcome. I am glad you liked it.

This tiny park is close to where I live and I have been visiting it for years. On one side, there is the mighty St.Lawrence river, the star of many of my skyscape sunsets. On the other sides we have small houses and a water filtration park.

While the pianist uses the piano for his practice session, this park and the D300 has become my photographic practice location. Can I find something new? Can I find angles that exclude the urban element? Can I improve my 'seeing' ability? Sometimes I employ certain composition elements but may be encumbered by the aforementioned urban elements.

In this case, had I used the 10 mm instead of the 18mm, I would have included some of those urban elements which I did not want in this image. I am pretty sure I have those trees, the shadows and snow in images taken

A number of people including yourself have mentioned the composition of this image and even though composition is important, I would not want that aspect to become the main attraction of this image.

Since I knew what the scene looked like I was not seeing what you mentioned. I just looked at it again and now I see the 'large wall'. Fascinating! Almost like in 3D! Wow!

Thanks for your visit. I have not been taking too many images over the last two months compared to what I was doing prior to that. Hardly a day would have passed without taking an image but now it is a couple of shots every 10 days or so. This one was taken yesterday but many of the images posted recently date back to 2009. I will go and have a V8 and look at 2008 images to see if I have any 'potentials'. Best regards,

Very nice shot. Like the tone and the reflections  that extend the trees in the opposite direction. The beams of shadow draw nice lines and the cross with the tree reflections are great.

BTW, thanks for your kind comments on my photos. I've really appreciated.

You got a lot of comments on this one, and there is not much more I can say but I like it very much. You express the mood of "Between winter and spring" very well. I also like to look for reflections in water like this when the snow is melting. Seems to have been a long and cold winter for many of us, but now the light of spring is coming.
