Here is a nice old view from last winter / spring in Death Valley. Odd

how people often associate blue and white as the colors of heaven

(minus the gates). The big flood at Badwater was such a sight to see.

Looks like I'll be there again teaching in March.. . It was enticing to walk

through the calmness in the dark, the moon at dawn moving in and out

of an overcast sky just captured me. One of my photographic goals is to

try to head out and create images that aren't so easily duplicated. This

is something you can keep in mind so your work will stand out amongst

others.

3 vertical shot stich that didn't want to stitch!

The goal was to capture this scene during the blue hour of the day and I've taken a few artistic liberties by enhancing the mood of the color blue and desaturating the yellow on the horizon.  A more natural view was the goal compared to the highly illustrated landscape painting that is a fad right now.

You've succeeded admirably -- this really stands out.  The uniqueness alone makes me able to enjoy it.  The reflections and especially the patterns on the playa only add to that enjoyment.  Very nicely done.

Thanks Yin and Formal Steve.

Yin, the close up wide angle is distorting the reflection and not actually showing a real life view of the scene.  I do get similar comments regarding the reflections on other images.

Tack sharp, and I love the reflections, both of the moon and the distant ridge at left. The blue color scheme, too: the choice to lay off of the sunrise color was the right one for the mood, I think.

I'm curious about the "didn't want to stitch" comment. Could you say a bit about what the problem was in getting the stitching right and how you managed it?

Thank you, I appreciate the comments

John, It was a little fun trying to fine tune the stitch.  Sure hate to point out the flaws in my own work but in the upper left third there was an issue with the sky blending.  It needs some adjustment, didn't catch it until after I uploaded here.   Thanks.

This is just gorgeous, you do great work.

I don't know how you feel about manipulation, but the one thing I would change if this were mine is to eliminate the reflection of the moon.  For me it distracts from the patterns in the ice, which are wonderful, and also the triangular balance that I feel between the mountains on the left, the moon in the sky, and the dark patch in the middle of the ice.

That said, I was drawn to this image among many fine ones in your portfolio, I think it's fantastic.
