stp 6 Posted October 31, 2012 Thanks for all of the comments (and I'm tardy on most). Before federal budget cuts, the National Park Service would keep this road open during the winter, and one could drive the several miles to the end at Johnston Ridge. I spent many wonderful hours out on that ridge in the cold and snow. I was returning from one such excursion when I happened to glance in my rearview mirror and saw the mountain unexpectedly lighting up from the sun that had found a crack in the heavy clouds on the horizon. The light lasted less than a minute, and I'm so fortunate to have witnessed it -- the memories are still very clear. Link to comment
