I love the colours, whan an exquisite range! The long exposure has really come up trumps with them in this shot. I think that cloud bank near the horizon may have done you a little bit of a favour by diffusing the light and allowing a longer exposure. I like those foreground rocks too they have a molten look that blends so well into this very serene looking image.

Best Regards

Truly awesome Stephen.  A great presentation of color and form.  This is a perfect example, of where as it has been of my opinion, that film still out performs digital in cases like these (long dark exposures).  Wonderful work.  Best regards...

Thanks very much for the comments.  Dave, many months ago I took this photo and then a digital photo using the same settings without moving the tripod.  The film image, to my eye, was far more aesthetically pleasing -- the difference between the two was quite dramatic, probably due to the relatively long exposure.

I am just starting to get to look at all the folders in your portfolio.

This is an excellent image and may be my favorite of your marine shoreline photographs.

The colors captured are phenomenal and the inclusion of the diagonal rocky outcropping in the foreground is pleasing and adds depth and interest to an otherwise simple scene. Its funny how it only takes a few rocks well placed in a photograph to make all the difference.

The only thing about this photo that I had a hard time with was finding the horizon line. When I first looked at it the sky and clouds blended together giving me an odd feeling. Admittedly it could be the monitor I am looking at this on (I am not at home) and I was able to find it but that was my first impression.

Regardless a most excellent work of art here that is a pleasure to look at.

Joseph, you're right, it is hard to find the horizon line.  I think that's due in part to the long exposure that has made some of the distant sea relatively light in color.  Plus, the clouds are exceptionally close to the horizon line, so the horizon is seen only as a very thin line across the frame.  I had to look closely to be sure.

Oh la-la!   That is some dynamic image.  Fantastic color, composition and the light, . . .   is extraordinary. It has a very strong effect, like a modern, contemporary acrylic painting.  This image,  definitely, do not belong to those typical, sunset, kitschy images. Beautiful.

How did I missed this image before?

Cheers.

Awesome long exposure Stephen! Love the light reflecting on the smooth edges of the rocks and the play of light and shadow on the beach and water.
