alfbailey 3 Posted November 17, 2010 IFTIMany thanks for your visit and positive comments. I know what you mean about the contrast, but when I tried it, it starts to too look oversaturated and loses some of its sublties, or maybe it's just my limited processing skills.Best RegardsAlfGEORGESincere thanks for your interest and positive feedback, I'm really pleased you liked it.Kind RegardsAlfSARAHGood to hear from you, I hope you are keeping well. Many thanks for your kind comments I'm very pleased you liked it. It is very gratifying that you have percieved my objectives, with the "lightness" and pastel colour analogy. ndj 0 Posted November 18, 2010 Beautiful work Alf! Lovely soft, subtle, colors, excellent quality of light, superbly composed, and a wonderful feeling of depth. I think you made a good decision to resist increasing the contrast too much in this one. A wonderful morning image! All the best,Neil Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted November 18, 2010 NEILSincere thanks for your comments and positive feedback. It was a difficult one to process in some ways, as the temptation to do more to the image is always there and it takes a bit of self discipline to stop. Glad you could see where I was coming from with this one Neil.Best RegardsAlfPARTHASARATHIMany thanks for your visit and your comments, much appreciated.Kind RegardsAlf Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted November 18, 2010 Alf... Well, I've watched this one for a couple days trying to decide just what my take is on it. Certainly my initial reaction was and remains positive but I wanted to see if anyone else would comment on the bright foreground. It distracts slightly, but after looking at other suggestions and since I don't have a firm alternative.... I'm going to say leave it as is. Beautiful detail and rich evening colors. A well done seascape... Mike Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted November 19, 2010 I fully agree with your analogy, it is a bit of a head scratcher to know what to do with it. I have to be honest, it's one of those shots, I like it, then I don't. The bright foreground you mention could be the reason, it's a bit plain and unexciting, but is wholly represented of what was there, but then the image gets a whole lot better when you probe it's depths. Sincere thanks for your thoughts and posiitve feedback Michael, very much appreciated!Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
aarkp 2 Posted November 19, 2010 a magical morning... so serene and peaceful...such a wonderful soft light... extremely pleasing subtle shades... this would look great blown up and displayed on a wall... i have only one doubt and that's about the compositional balance... playing around with it on my comp i liked it best as a 16:9 crop as i've uploaded... not better than what you have produced but perhaps an option worth considering... i've additionally given the mid-section a little more pop using the clarity tool and slightly deepended the magentas and purples Link to comment
swede621 0 Posted November 19, 2010 Now the Tourism Board would definitely be interested in this one. Very pleasant mood. Great tone and colors as always. How did you get the clouds to line up that way? The clouds and their reflection make nice leading lines. Another excellent shot, Alf... Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted November 19, 2010 It is probably not what you saw or envisioned for this image but here is my spin on it using Nik Capture v1.3 software. Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted November 19, 2010 And for what it is worth, this image is exactly the same as what I posted previously except that I changed the color space to SRGB. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted November 19, 2010 RAJAT Many thanks for your interest and kind comments. I quite agree with your suggestion that it would look better blown up to full size on a wall.I quite like the crop, I didn't think it would work clipping the clouds quite so close but it does. I'm not quite as keen on the colour saturation, but then I think thats just a matter of taste. But it's interesting to see different options. Thanks again Rajat.Best RegardsAlfJERRYSincere Thanks for your visit and positive feedback, very much appreciated!I think the clouds could be the result of an early morning aircraft vapour trail that was slowly dispersing in the sky, it was quite faint and I didn't even notice it at first, but once I seen it I tried to get it to frame the shot by capturing the reflection too.Cheers JerryAlfTONYMany Thanks for taking the time to experiment and probe the possibilities. Interesting options, but I think the SRGB version is about the best, it seems a bit richer with more depth.Cheers TonyAlf Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted November 20, 2010 Hello Alf, This is really a fine scene and I think much better when viewed larger. Now I have not read every single remark regarding this photo, BECAUSE THERE ARE ALWAYS SO MANY, but I just wanted to say it seemed a little to blue for me. I love the reflections and the sky above and its reflection below, and you know I say this with all due respect. Just my two cents. Take care.Holger Link to comment

alfbailey 3 Posted November 20, 2010 HOLGER Many thanks for your visit and positive feedback, you could be right about it being "too blue" it might have looked better with a bigger landmass behind it to balance it a bit more, but as it is, there is just lake and sky and not a great deal in between, apart from a few boats, some of which are blue of course :- ) I appreciate your honesty and viewpoint Holger.Best RegardsAlfGRANT Sincere Thanks for your interest and kind words, much appreciated.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
tibig 0 Posted November 20, 2010 This shot has an interesting tranquil mood but, though the skies are interesting and beautifully reflected in the water, the stones in the front forming a kind of horizontal constellation somehow fail to lead the eye into the picture.Of course all this is very subjective.Best Regards, Tibi Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted November 20, 2010 Many thanks for your interest and kind words. I don't altogether disagree with your analogy. The stones though interesting to some degree in themselves, don't serve to form any leading line or pattern. A few larger rocks would have been ideal, and they are usually in abundance on the shores of this particular lake......but not this time, and not this place.Cheers TibiAlf Link to comment
michaellinder 16,612 Posted November 24, 2010 Wow! I love the crisp, sharp lines of the masts contrasted against the soft character of the sky and the water. This photograph makes a bold statement by its understated character. Most impressive work . . .michael Link to comment
johnborg 0 Posted December 6, 2010 Hi Alf! I love the pink and blue tones in this scene. Very crisp and clear. Would have loved something in the foreground, or perhaps a boat nearer as a primary focal point. However it still works well as it is. Well done for a fine and beautiful scene. Best wishes.... alfbailey 3 Posted December 6, 2010 MARIEMany thanks for your interest and kind words, much appreciated.Kind RegardsAlfMICHAELYou seem have summed up it's qualities very well, it's a photo that isn't immediately attractive and looks better when viewed large, Thank you so much, for your thoughts and positive feedback.Best RegardsAlfJOHN I agree, I also would hav loved a bit more foreground interest, but the small stones and reflected cloud was all that nature provided. Sincere thanks for your interest and positive feedback, very much appreciated.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
