Loch Sheil was shrouded in mist when we arrived, we waited around

under umbrella's in the seeming perpetual drizzle, just waiting for an

opening in the mist and then Bingo! this little eye opened up!. Your

thoughts and comments are always appreciated. Thank You.

Alf great job on this. You can see there is only a momentary break until it is again completely shrouded. It is quite dramatic.

Thank you for stopping by at my site. With all my best, Grigoriy

Alf... Great timing.  It's very hard to capture the mist and difficult to know where to stop contrasting.  I think you have it just right so we can feel like we're there... Excellent... Mike

Very nice and moody image.  I like the clouds and the colors.  I find the foreground takes a bit too much room however. I would consider cropping it a little.  I played also a bit in PS with level and curve adjustments to bring out more brightness in the shot. I realize this may not have been what you wanted to do, as it does take away from the dark and moody feel some, but i offer it as an alternative shot.  The cropping turns it also into a more panoramic shot. Regards always - michel

Well worth the wait!  This is beautiful as is but I do like Michael's suggested crop but on the other hand I prefer the original with its soft natural mist rather than Michael's more dramatic processing.  The crop simply allows us to see more as we are viewing a relatively small image, on the other hand this image may look just fine as posted when viewed full size on your monitor.  The above comments reflect my own feelings when I post a photo on PN, do I make specific adjustments for my PN viewers or do I leave it the way it looks best on my monitor.

It indeed looks like an eye. I like the elegant composition and the subdued colors. The central group of trees could have been even a bit more in the mist but all in all I like the shot.

Beautiful composition in this misty shot Alf! The prize goes to the patient! I like Michels adjustments, but prefer your crop. There are times that having the horizon centrally located is desired, and I think this is one of those times. Gorgeous place!

All the best,
Neil

Sincere Thanks for your interest and positive feedback, it seemed everywhere we looked in Scotland there was another photo begging to be taken, but the rain and mist did slow us a down a bit.

Cheers Tony

MIKE

Sincere thanks for your visit and imput, I really do appreciate it. I know exactly what you mean about the "contrast dilemma" but I'm really pleased it has come across like you feel you could be there, thats exactly as I wanted it to look.

 Cheers Mike

MICHAEL

I always look forward to hearing your views and seeing your alternatives, it is quite an education. But on this occaison I don't agree with your suggestions. Whilst your more contrasty image is pleasing in some ways, it kind of loses the misty murky mood that I was trying to show, and although the panoramic crop is fine in some instances, I don't think it suits this shot as it loses all sense of depth. But hey I'm not saying I'm my versions right either, and I do appreciate you taking the time and trouble to thoroughly investigate every alternative.

Many Thanks

Alf

JIM

Sincere thanks for your kind words and thoughts, very much appreciated. An interesting dilemma Jim ( process for the screen or for the net) and yes one that must always cross everyones mind as they process the shot. I tend to process for the screen then make a few minor ajustments for the web.

My main aim here was to try and convey the misty murky mood that prevailed on that day. Whilst Michels version is more dynamic in terms of Colour / Contrast for me it kind of loses the mood.

Many Thanks for your visit and interest, much appreciated. It was a difficult call as to when to click the shutter on this one, the trees were "in the mist" a bit more a few seconds earlier, but then thier visibility was less than ideal, but yeah I know where your coming from.

Cheers Tibi.

Sincere Thanks for your visit and positive feedback, much appreciated. MIke Mancil touched on a vaild point earlier, about the amount of contrast to use when processing misty images, when do you stop? I suppose it depends on what you want to achieve, in this instance I wanted to show the misty murky day pretty much as it was, but I can fully appreciate why Michels version would appeal too.

HOLGER

Many Thanks for your visit and kind words. I do intend to go back there next year, the place is simply outstanding in terms of beautiful landscape material. It's a 7 hour drive though so possibly it will be just an regular annual visit.

HAMID

Many Thanks for your visit and very positive feedback. You touched on an interesting point there. I think the thumnail of this shot looks quite bland an uninteresting, I wonder how many shots go unoticed because of this phenomena, but I can't suggest any better way of viewing the images. Glad you liked this one Hamid

Kind Regards

Alf

HARRY

Your right it was hard work, strangely it was quite a warm day, but I was hungry and thirsty, even the drips off the umbrella started to look tempting : - )  but I determined I was going to get a shot of the island.

Many thanks for your interest and positive feedback Harry, much appreciated.

Admired the image for a while and read all comments with pleasure. Remains to say that you definitely deserved a few large ones by the fire place after return... Compliments, excellent upload again.

Hi Alf.  Waiting paid off and you have achieved a wonderful mood, yet also a feeling of tranquility to this landscape. Colours and lighting are so beautifully controlled. All the best. Sarah

I have always liked photographing mist as in cannot but add mystery and atmosphere to any shot. The oasis of greeny gives a great relief from the sombre scene...well done mate.....Regards

It was worth the waiting, for sure. I find your color treatment perfect, and would not touch the contrast. My only suggestion is to fix the very slight greenish cast in the fog, perhaps with masking technique selectively
