You never know when or where you're going to run into wildlife. On a

dark, dank, gloomy rainy day ( on vacation of course) I wanted to get

some photos of a lighthouse I hadn't seen before. (Finns Point), since

that wasn't working out to well I figured I'd shoot these guys having quite

a chat above me. I thought all those dark lines and silhoetted birds

might be interesting. What do you think? Comments and whatever are

always welcome. Thanks for looking.

Hey there Holger

It's a very nice image; good job getting those lines straight. I think it could use a little more contrast, simply due to the nature of the shot. Some bird silhouette shots work well with low contrast but they need the right composition to pull off the mood which would then necessitate a low contrast tonality. In this case, I think your image would be even more striking with a higher contrast. Maybe not more blacks, but certainly a higher white point. The small amount of detail in the dark tones may be worth keeping, something you'll have to play with!

I think you've demonstrated a great photographers "eye" with this shot. All too often we go out to take a photo's with a preconceived idea of what we want to achieve, but when things don't go quite to plan, it takes resourcefulness, determination and above all recognition of an opportunity to come back home with the goods, and you have done just that here.

I love the geometric lines and angles, two silhouetted birds are instantly apparent, but the third one peeking from the corner joint is just a delight. Great shot Holger I love it!

Best Regards

Alf

I agree Holger that this is a very interesting synthesis.....

Lines and shapes in a very artistic complex enriched by the birds' silhouettes.....

Kawan, Linda, Hamid, Karolos and Aivar thank you so much for looking and commenting on my image. Every comment is appreciated and coming from good photographers like all of you makes it that much more rewarding.

I entirely agree to what Alf posted earlier - had shot pretty similar images (some ravens sitting on a huge high-voltage power line with the Canon 300 mm f/4.0) a few weeks ago, but thought, no one would be interested in (here). Hence, your work is a great inspiration as well. The overall rating result for this photo does not reflect its value at all IMO.

Like you say Holger, it is kind of similar to my bird silhouette shot, but I think a much more graphic image than mine. Love the lines and angles. It is always satisfying to come home with something worthwhile when things don't go according to plan.

thank you for the comment on my shot, by the way, it is much appreciated. Pat.

Tony, I'm very flattered, anytime someone revisits an image. It's also interesting to me that a somewhat casually taken image got as much attention as it did, I guess it has it's appeal, so I'm glad you like it as well. Thanks again.
