This is a very beautiful image, Zachariah.  I like the composition and the color tones in this image very much.  An eye catching image indeed. Thank you so much for sharing :)  Tanni

That may be one of the best Crater Lake shots I've ever seen, Zack.  I'm surprised I've never seen this view before but I guess it is a long way from the lodge ;-)

Is it my imagination or is the lake level down quite a bit?  I don't recall Wizard Island getting that close to the shoreline before.

Pamela, this is actually all natural ambient light.  The clouds lit up 360 degrees in all directions, and reflected the sunset onto the landscape including this tree.

For me this is easily the most unique presentation of Crater Lake! Everything comes together; the tree framing Wizard Island, the deep red clouds filling the upper right sky and of course, the tree itself, bathed in alpenglow light. Zack, this one is really a standout composition with fantastic magic hour light. I give you alot of credit! One could say you were lucky, but you can't have this kind of luck unless you are there and prepared for such a moment. If I were nit picking, I would say that the island is merging with the distant shore, easily remedied with some careful dodging. Other than that, it is a total winner!!

The management of light and the placement of the tree are perfect. I think it was a critical decision to cut the tree from the top but I see there was no other choice and it doesn't change the beauty of the scene. Congrats....

fabulous scene and light. the cut off tree top is a tiny bit distracting for me too, but still i think it deserve the maximum rating. excellent photo.

I love the color rendition, but I think it works equally well in B&W! But then again, I think MOST things look better in B&W!

I find it interesting that as soon as this is the top rated photo for the month, someone rates it a 3.  No reason is given of course, no critique, no comment at all.  No one had rated it lower than a 6 until mister anonymous came along. Interesting...

Zack,

Every site has their childish trolls. This site is no different, there are several on this site. I routinely get one person who gives my images a 3, even though the rest may be 5's and 6's. I probably gave him a well deserved critique of one of his photos and this is his childish way of getting back at me.

OUTSTANDING work from a very skillfull photographer, top marks,Harry     About the 3s,THERE IS NOTHING ANONYMOUS IN PN,every 3 or 4 they dish out goes on their tally in their ratings, they can NEVER get rid of them,i have recently found someone new who rated 1360 images with 3s and 4s in his 2 weeks in PN,worst of all they scared away the female photographers.

Hi Zack,

Your images are so BEAUTIFUL so don't be discourage by those losers who kept rating it at 3s.  I too routinely had 3 ratings with no critiques.  This is one of the issues that I think the PN Administration needs to look at before all of the members are disappear.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more of your beautiful pix.

Best Regards,

Tanni :)

Hi Zack, amazing photo and wonderful old tree. I like how it stretches along the bottom to frame in the beautiful scene in the distance. Best Regards, Gary
