richardthompson 0 Posted August 5, 2010 I would have a tough time discounting color when it looks this nice. A spectacular shot beautifully composed, Alf. Link to comment
ArtLionse 0 Posted August 5, 2010 Like the color version. This is a great composition with gret leading lines, the green foreground colors works very well with yellowish reflections. Have you tried croping the right part? My feeling is that it would bring additional drama and feeling to the shot. All in all a graet picture. AL Link to comment
swede621 0 Posted August 5, 2010 I continue to be blown away by your landscapes. This would surely be a 7/7. In fact, I have saved it in "my favorites". Link to comment
alberto_quintal 2 Posted August 6, 2010 WOW! Excellent, the both versions are amazing, 10/10.Alberto Link to comment
Funtak 0 Posted August 6, 2010 I prefer this one..however I also agree with Art - I would chose an angle of shoting to avoid the distant harbour... BR,vf Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted August 6, 2010 I did not read the whole thread , so I may repite what was already said and written...If I have to choose this is my favorite,I think that the light is special and the B/W is reducing the light effect ( in this case...)I like the two kinds of light here, the end of day with natural sunset, and the far away city electricity, man made lights. Beautiful composition and color palette. Link to comment
alfbailey 4 Posted August 6, 2010 NEILMany thanks for your feedback and kind comments, much appreciated! I'm not sure about my B & W processing to be honest, it's something I'm working on : - )Cheers NeilAlfRUUDI'm really pleased you liked it Ruud, sincere thanks!Kind RegardsAlfRICHARDMy Sincere thanks for your visit and feedback, much appreciated!Kind RegardsAlfARTMany thanks for your thoughts, comments and feedback, very much appreciated. I took quite a few shots on this particular evening and have some shots that don't include the Liverpool docks to the right, and you are right they do look perhaps more dramatic, as the main focus is then directed at the lighthouse and sky. However I do quite like the view of the docks, it gives a secondary focus point, and on a more personal note, it has nostalgic memories for me as it's my home town across the river.Kind RegardsAlfJERRY You are very kind! and I'm honoured that you chose to save it as a facourite. Thank You!Kind RegardsAlfALBERTOMany thanks for your visit and kind words, much appreciated!RegardsAlfILKKA Sincere Thanks, I appreciate your visit!RegardsAlfVLADIMIRMany thanks for your thoughts and comments, much appreciated! I quite like the docklands in the distance, but I can see your point also. I will post an image without the docklands soon, and hopefuly get your thoughts on that one.Kind RegardsAlfPNINASincere thanks for all your thoughts and comments, I agree with you about the effect of the light in the B & W version, it just doesn't come across as well as in the colour version. I also like the dockland lights, it kind of adds another dimension to the photo.Kind RegardsAlf Link to comment

GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted August 9, 2010 A stunning composition Alf. Such glorious scenery to photograph. And you've given us a 'gift' of a glimpse into your life and surroundings. Everyone has pretty well used up all the adjectives. A very beautiful comp. Sincerely, Gail Link to comment
jim_air 0 Posted August 9, 2010 Great, great balance and lots to see, as well as atmosphere. A picture one can look at for a long time and also revisit. I prefer the colour version (even though I have been giving lots of good critiques to B&W photos for a while now). I like how the contrasts show up in this version. Cheers, Jim Link to comment

terrygilroy 0 Posted August 19, 2010 Excellent in every way - but - I find the pool of water a quarter way up the left edge too eye catching, I might have been tempted to clone it out. Wish my horizons were always as straight, regards Link to comment
alfbailey 4 Posted August 19, 2010 ESTEBAN Many thanks for your visit and very kind comments, much appreciated!Kind RegardsAlfTERRY Now you come to mention it, it is slightly distracting, easilly sorted though. As for the straight horizons, errrm well I have to admit I cheat a bit here, the Nikon D700 has a very useful "virtual horizon" feature, press a button in the menu and a live graphic display appears on the LCD screen that allows you to ajust the camera on the tripod untill the arrows line up, and hey presto! It's straight........well it is when I remember to use it. Cheers Terry thanks for your feedback and kind comments.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
