I think my "cropping" of the image has possibly created the perception that you see.

This image was taken at a Raptor exhibition...... a large cleared area surrounded by trees. He was at the point of turning to come back towards us.....  about 8ft off the ground...... the afternoon sun was to our left.

Hello again Grayham

If you are going to keep getting great captures like these you MUST increase your shutter speed.  If the EXIF data is correct here, 1/125 is way too slow. Try to keep it up around 1/1000 or better for action.  Setting your ISO up to 400 or higher will help.
