yannik_hay 1 Posted December 13, 2009 Hello Linda, this is a beautiful diagonal composition of the fir branches and the light and shadow from the paned window. It makes a beautiful patern on the snow and it show that it must be very cold by the texture of the snow. Very well done! Cheers! Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted December 13, 2009 I like it. The light falling on the snow is marvelous, the rest is icing on the cake. Well done. Best Wishes, Holger Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted December 15, 2009 I love your title and the composition is wonderful! I don't mind the graininess of the snow, but on my monitor I see quite a bit of grain in the sky as well. What ISO did you use on this, and is there any way you could reduce that? I think it would improve the overall effect. Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted December 15, 2009 Thank you all for stopping by. It's good to hear from you. Christal, thank you. This is all grainy snow, no sky. The darker blue in the background is part of the same hill. If you look up at the top right you can see a bit of sun hitting it as it passed through a metal fence. You could be right about the loss of detail in there though. I shot this with my "old" lens. I would have captured more clean detail with my "new" one. We are off to Calgary for Christmas next week. I hope to get some great snow shots in the Rockies. Best wishes. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted December 16, 2009 I love the little windowpane in the sky. The drifting shadow, frosty blue, is also a nice touch. It makes me almost (almost!) like snow. Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted December 16, 2009 Well, I didn't 'see' this very well, did I? I had wondered what was causing that windowpane of light in the upper right. So now I see what it is.....thanks! But my idea could be a really neat shot too, if you could find a scene where the sky was in the background of a hillside like this. At any rate, now the graininess certainly makes more sense. Have fun in Calgary with your son. My daughter is coming here on the 21st-29th. Next year we'll probably go to Calgary.....alternate years. Warm wishes for a wonderful holiday and Happy New Year! Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted December 16, 2009 Jeff, the secret to getting along with snow is having the right clothes. If you are warm then it is pure magic. Christal, I will be looking for the scene you describe on my trip to Calgary. We always have a great time there. I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday and all the best in the New Year.
