Great and colorful image. What a scene. Personally I prefer to crop the image just above the person's head, but that's just me.

thank you David. you know my stubborn adherence to the square. :-) i liked this young man framed by the larger costumes of the adults around him. plus he looks so pensive and impressionable here. i have been reading more about the Mardi Gras Indians and the story and ritual behind it all is really quite fascinating.

you have been scarce around here lately. i hope all is well and that you have just been taking a break!

The main reason I suggested the crop, was to get the people out of the background.

I have been scarce lately. Really really busy and not taking too many pics. I'm in Iowa right now for Thanksgiving. We came to Dubuque for a little two day sojourn, and will head back to Des Moines tomorrow. We are staying at the most delightful bed and breakfast. I'll throw a bottle with a picture in it into the Mississippi, and we'll see how long it takes to get to you. :)

David,

I like the people in the background. They give the elders something to shelter this young man from.

I'll be looking for that bottle! Take a pic and upload it so I know what I'm looking for. :-)

A fine shot, youv'e handled the colours and square very well. Great clarity on the boy and the moment you have caught him in. I'm not bothered by the man in the background in the slightest, I think it does lend a certain perspective as you say.

I have not been seeing all of your New Orleans series but I have been seeing many of the images. I particularly like this one very much. Great framing and a great subject who is not looking at the camera. I like it.

that's the color fiesta that I enjoy in this picture...beside the human appeal, the woman's head provide that little anchor that my silly mind always apreciate to help structre the picture around...a little bit of crowd in the BG also help to add context...all those elements together define the picture as documentary...a very nice color documentary....

Just passing by like the wind Linda to wish you a wonderful Xmas period...and the best start in 2010...

I think the people behind her gives context to this composition. You did a great job capturing the colors and festive mood. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for the coming year.
