excellent shot. B&W works perfectly here. its rare to find an image of a structure that also creates a sense of endlessness leading into the horizon. the lines and your perspective here definitely help achieve that

Giuseppe, this could have been, if post produced as it is now, a Photo of the Week/its quality and visual aspects are entirely original (for Photo.net at least, since you say it is much photographed) and it is visually stunning.

 

I suggest that if it had been been so stunning when posted and if I had been an 'elf' which is what we used to call those who chose the Photo of the Week, this would have been very high on the list (though I have lost touch with ratings/view requirements for that honor, and don't know if it otherwise qualified.

 

As a 'formal' and 'set piece' 'landscape' shot, this is your sine qua non, and I am sure I know exactly how you brought out the sky (see my photo of trucks in the face of an oncoming cold front in the Nevada desert to see a somewhat similar sky, that is more than somewhat 'emphasized'.

 

The chaotic nature of the sky, contrasted with the formal nature of the checkerboard/chessboard aspect of the esplanade creates an interesting contrast that causes a dissonance -- the eye must move between the two and in doing so, it is caught in the photo.

 

The sign of a successful photo is one which engages the view (for other than just being terrible), and this is such a photo. It is hard to take one's eyes off of it.

 

In fact it is a triumph.

 

I am hesitant to give you too many 7/7s, less other worthy photographers think I am giving them to you for reasons unrelated to pure merit,but this has my envy. (not my jealousy, mind you, but my envy, that you were there on such a day, in such a magnificent setting and of course that you had the photographer's attributes you had to make such a stunning capture.

 

This should be a full page in your first book. Maybe even spread across the 'gutter' if it can be done without upsetting the geometry.

 

And in any exhibition.

 

Just the mere fact that you produced this one photograph makes you a worthy photographer even if you produced or posted nothing else.

Although it may have seemed helpful at the time when posting or re-submitting, to place the 'year' in the caption, I think it no longer serves any purpose unless you are creating a chronology of your work in the captions.

 

I personally would hit the 'edit image' button and edit out the year, and continue with the posting, unchanged otherwise. as our knowledge of the year (for this timeless scene) seems to add little.

 

Unless this esplanade has been torn down in the interim. ;~))

John, you can bet on it: this will surely be printed large and will be a full page in the book! As far as elves, nymphs and other curious creatures of magical lands are concerned, well, I do not know. Maybe they are more interested in HDR, post productions, visual arts ... who knows: they have to follow the market as most of people have to for immanent reasons. It would be interesting and stimulating to investigate and have some confrontation with you and other qualified photographers here on photography and its role in contemporary society and visual arts.
