Donna Stavis 0 Posted October 20, 2009 The Big Apple. The Big Apple. Wait a minute...Did I just write that? Write thet? Wrete thet? Wwite that? Pretty shadows on a pretty street. The city looks earthy. I love how she is interested in the city, and he is interested in her! Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted October 20, 2009 I didn't even think about Miracle on 34th Street. Of course. The miracle was Photoshop all along. Manhattan seemed rather uncrowded on a Sunday. It made for some fun pictures. Thanks a bunch, Donna. Always a pleasure to hear your well-worded thoughts. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 20, 2009 Jeff, did you use hdr on this one? It seems a little blotchy and contrasty for my taste or perhaps it's just the early morning reflected light that give it that effect. The picture idea and composition itself I like very much, though. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted October 20, 2009 Nope. I don't use any HDR, usually for the reasons you mentioned. I did use a sharpening trick to perk it up a bit, particularly to rev up the texture on the pavement. On my Mac, it didn't seem anywhere near as contrasty or splotchy as it did on my laptop. Perhaps it's time to recalibrate... Link to comment

bosshogg 4 Posted October 21, 2009 Wonderful, splotchy sunlight, checkerboard painted streets and then the twin pairs to top it off. What an eye! Link to comment

andrea allison 0 Posted October 26, 2009 Hi Jeff! Nicely done! I get excited now when I recognize places from my visit to New York. You have created a nice mood, and the shadows on the buildings, which I can relate to as the morning sun rises. My daughter has been living in New York for all most 2 yrs now. She just moved from Manhattan to Brooklyn about 5 months ago. Sure miss her!!! The upside, I have a great city to visit when I go and see her. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted October 27, 2009 Joke: I like that you like this. David O: Manhattan seemed to have a twinkle. Thanks. A.K.: Such is life sometimes. A peaceful stroll. Too rare these days. Bob: Looking forward to your pics. Koushik: Thanks! David: It seemed like a running joke (or walking rather). Claudio: Sorry to disturb. Thanks for your thoughts. Alberto: As you know, NYC is a fantastic place to fill a memory card. Mehmet: Thanks so much. Kevin: There are so many windows and taxicabs that the light bounces everywhere. Cheers from this side of the pond. Alberta: Please let me know when you do. I'll have to follow your lead. Andrea: My sister-in-law lives in Brooklyn and works in Manhattan. It's a fun place to visit. It's always best to position your relatives in interesting places. I have memories of visiting relatives in small towns in Iowa and Arkansas. After a day or two, we'd talked about everything there was to talk about, and we'd just sit in our lawnchairs and stare. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted October 28, 2009 I like the subtlety of your trickery. The effect creeps up gradually, either that or I am a bit slow. The proliferation of mid tones, from the low angle and low intensity of the morning light on concrete and asphalt along with your PP, give the urban street a softness that makes the scene feel familiar and inviting. I enjoy the way in which the irregular patchwork on the road surface is echoed by the smattering of light and dark on the faces of the buildings. You really caught - interpreted - created a mood with this one. Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted October 29, 2009 I'll let Gordon do the eloquent speaking. I'll just say, "Wowzers, I love it!" Link to comment

thadley 15 Posted October 30, 2009 Excellent - much has already been said and I don't want to redundant. I was attracted by the light and the fact that the same couple was in two places. Fascinating and a reflection - oops I mean - a reproduction of your creativity. Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted October 30, 2009 Sundays are great for shooting in NY - the streets are not as crowded and it is more laid back, a condition seldom associated with this energetic place. My hat off for this creative and fun work. Link to comment
ffrank 0 Posted November 2, 2009 34th Street........this town must be a lot bigger than where I'm living. I'm pretty sure we stop at about 14th. The reflected light makes this very interesting. The girl and her twin seem to be interested in it too. Very nice street shot Jeff. I'd love to visit here someday....just visit. Link to comment
manuel barrera houston, 0 Posted November 4, 2009 The weather is finally getting cool enough for me to go out again to visit downtown Houston city life. Young woman looking up the guy walking beside her looking at here. Same couple excellent layer work. Link to comment
jbm 0 Posted November 4, 2009 This is a particularly resonant shot for me as I lived on 33d b/t 1st and FDR and did my residency at NYU and Bellevue Hospitals. I spent a lot of time there in Midtown...amazing how evev in midtown Manhattan there are forgotten blocks. Great shot...did you do the double exposure in camera or in the post? Jay Link to comment
