jay_dixon 0 Posted January 9, 2003 I have been debating aas to whether or not the extremely shallow depth of field works in this image or not. It was taken in a reduced lighting situation in a limited time situation. Any constuctive thoughts would be appreciated. Link to comment
koval 0 Posted January 9, 2003 I like the image despite it shallow DOF. I feel though that Greater DOF would be this what I would do if pos. , but as you mentioned there was not much you could do . Still a good image . Regards PK. Link to comment
bgelfand 1,251 Posted January 9, 2003 I think it works very well, indeed. It would have been slightly better if his left eye (frame right) were in focus. A powerful image. Link to comment
red_star 0 Posted January 9, 2003 i've been looking around this site and your photo is the first one that really caught my attn. i don't know anything about photography or DOF (or what DOF even means) but i know art. art is supposed to envoke some sort of emotion in the person viewing/experiencing it. looks very working class struggle... brian l. schiele 0 Posted January 9, 2003 I like... Good tones, good textures. DOF doesn't bother me. Good Stuff! Link to comment
janelno5 0 Posted January 9, 2003 I really like this picture. I don't know all of the tech mumbo jumbo,, but it looks good to me. This picture was the first one one the site today that grabbed my attention immediately. Great job ! Link to comment
rick_bogacz 0 Posted January 10, 2003 I agree that a greater depth of field would have been preferred but otherwise a very powerful image. Link to comment
peter haraszti photography 0 Posted January 10, 2003 Jay, this is a very good portrait! I like the composition, the expression on the subject's face and the texture of his skin and beard. The reason I did not rate it 7 is that the subject's left eye should have been in focus, in my opinion. Where did you take the picture? Link to comment
patanjali_parimi 0 Posted January 11, 2003 Strong image! Tight framing works well. I guess, high depth of field would not make this pic any beter. Whatever is needed is already in the left half. Could be a future POW. Link to comment
james_ryan_carssow 0 Posted January 11, 2003 Fantastic photo. DOF works well here, concentrates focus right where it should be - his eyes and face. I used to work in newspapers as a page designer, and this is EXACTLY the type of photo I used to love to build a page around. This photo INSTANTLY grabs your attention and makes you INTERESTED in this man. Great job! Would be interesting to see what this would have looked like with grainier film, but that is merely an alternative view, not a critique. Link to comment
james_ryan_carssow 0 Posted January 11, 2003 Won't let me give sevens without another comment. Again, this is a fantastic portrait. After looking at your whole "street" folder, this is by far the best out of what is a terrific folder of portraits. Link to comment
thomas_t 0 Posted January 11, 2003 Excellent work ... contrast and tone just perfect. Composition: have you considered cropping closer to rid the ringlets of the hood? Some faces just look like a story-telling book ... very good subject. Link to comment
