shirley hooper 0 Posted June 8, 2009 This is my first time here, a real newbie! I'm seeking guidance, and would appreciate any and all suggestions. I took this photo during a hawk banding outing sponsored by the Idaho BLM, handholding my camera whilst standing on a ladder. These hawks are about 5 and one-half weeks old, and will be leaving the nest soon. Link to comment

mrraz 0 Posted June 8, 2009 Well, they certainly don't look all that happy about your presence, but it is still a remarkable shot. I think there might be some improvement, if you were to brighten the image a small amount, maybe 10%. Right now it seems just a bit dark which creates a feeling of flatness. Otherwise the composition is fine. This is fine work. Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted June 9, 2009 Astonoshing subject, excellent composition and setting, a bit too dark. Karl Link to comment
jtipton 0 Posted June 9, 2009 This is one great shot. Regarding the shade (which is a little dark) I would make another suggestion. I would leave the background and nest the same and suggest brightening the birds in either PS or Elements. Either will work using a mask layer. Just a humble opinion, but I think it would draw more attention to the birds. Regardless, with efforts like this, please keep shooting. Best wishes-Jim Link to comment
rbanfield 0 Posted June 9, 2009 Ok this is very good. Very high ratings for a first photo on PN. Welcome aboard and may we see lots and lots of your photographs in the future. 6/6 rating all the way...RAY Link to comment
shirley hooper 0 Posted June 9, 2009 I am so appreciative of the many very generous comments, and especially the suggestions for improvement! I'm working on the making the changes, i.e. to lighten and brighten the birds so that they stand out more, and I will post the photo again once the changes are complete. Link to comment
