thadley 15 Posted May 21, 2009 Fabulous work - I was worried that the middle portion was too bright but i think it works for me. I rated you 6/6 where it 'counts'. Link to comment
blue-olympus 0 Posted May 22, 2009 Indeed a great scene as Tony states. Your toning is excellent and the look on the woman's face is priceless...excellent and uncomfortable viewpoint I should imagine....Regards Link to comment
heider 0 Posted May 25, 2009 "If we had believed that poverty is unacceptable to us, and that it should not belong to a civilized society, we would have created appropriate institutions and policies to create a poverty-free world" Muhammad Yunus - Nobel Peace Prize - 2006. Link to comment
hus 0 Posted May 25, 2009 Great street shot Heider. I like your composition. Max! سبعة, سبع Very good perspective. Link to comment
aarkp 2 Posted May 25, 2009 Even if I were to pretend Hayder's caption wasn't there (not that I don't agree with it, quite the contrary), nor the mildly critical Mohd. Yunus quote, this photograph would move me. It's a poignant visual: neither of the two protagonists take cognizance of each other, the view-point is at the level of the 'unfortunate' as he sits exposed at the rim of the kerb, we have to look up to the 'fortunate' walking confidently by the imposing gate of a massed structure; the 'unfortunate' is on the outer edge, the 'fortunate' the inner; we have what seems to be a small observer in the distance, looking to us; the 'fortunate' looking at us hides her eyes behind dark glasses. And then there is Hayder's trademark harsh finishing -- in tone and texture. A fine composition, finer because of its geometry -- the triangle with its apex above the 'fortunate'. Link to comment
photonetsucks 0 Posted May 26, 2009 The image by itself is captivating, but you could not have chosen a better title. This is really great. Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted May 26, 2009 I stand with you for expectations of social justice. She has her nose a bit up, and he well... we need to realize that this is God's Earth, and we are mere care takers, not exactly doing our jobs. Link to comment
heider 0 Posted May 26, 2009 Dear Donna, First i would like to thank you so much for having the time to comment on my humble work. I am not a man who seeks justice necessarily in my photos, justice is on my list of priorities, but i am more concerned about truths. The titles and comments on my photos do not necessarily reflect all whats in my mind. Here my point was to ask a simple question " Who created this unjust situation?, Who is responsible?" . The answer is simply us... we are the criminals ... me.. and everybody else who is not poor. By adopting a style of living and creating institutions and policies that lead to poverty and injustice, yet we were all thought that "All men are created equal...". But do we really believe that all men are equal. Here in this photo I wanted to show the amount of hypocrisy in our lives, we lie to ourself by repeating many brilliant slogans, yet we don't live by them. Hypocrisy is a the most dangerous illness ... we kill in the name of peace... we always measure by double standards... we all speak in the name of God and justice only to serve our inner demons... It is a shame that we live our entire life without being able to confess only once that we are Hippocrates. I have always hoped that my works are not judgmental, rather i wish to document and to show the mere truths. It's a very difficult task indeed, and i am still in the bigging. Thank you again for your kind words and comments. Link to comment
