To me this is much more than just a nice image, but I'm with Przemek about the white form intruding on the upper RH corner. The black to the textures is a great contrast in a simple, yet striking composition.

Excellent tones, composition and mood. Ditto on the white at upper right...shame to mar this beauty of a photo. Tiniest bit of cropping will get rid of it.

What I really like about the photo is the vertical line of the person vs the slightly tilted flow of light. The toning is perfect.
What irritates me, though, is the white point in the upper right corner, which I would probably have stamped away. Or else, cut the upper 1/6 completely to get rid of the dark bar running horizontally, and have a constant line of light from upper left to lower right.
Nevertheless, it's a storyteller.

I just love the uncertainty as to whether the woman is actually going away or walking towards the camera. The picture has mystery and intrigue, which is added to by the darkness and cold color of the whole piece. A superb shot, I hope I can aspire to such a composition.

I agree with Monika's assessment in that the little lit up object in the upper right is out of place and once called to my attention does distract me a little. But then so does the bulbous shadow lower right. Both could easily (probably) be cloned out or reduced to such an extent as to become oblivious to the viewer.

I tried to crop away from the existing image, and can successfully make a couple of different images out of this one still making quite good compositions and eliminating the two objects I mentioned above. However, none would be better than the artist's construction as is. It's really a lovely piece of work. That walkway is most interesting and could be used as a backdrop over and over with other pictures. Congratulations on being chosen for this week's POW.

Hi dear Alp

You have captured the shadows in the best situation and posture. The shadows movement from upper left to lower right is so interesting. The composition of the photograph is quite skew and this, made it so dynamic and yet the two semicircle shadows in upper left and lower right made it balanced. Excellent. The viewer can'n see any ineffective element in the composition. Wish you success.

Best regards, Saleh

I do not agree that the white spot to the right spoils anything. In contrary it constitues a balance. Starting from this observation i arrived to the conclusion, that the higher dynamic range would enable understanding of this image not as the interesting graphic pattern but as the process of passing on the other side.

The photo is very nice both from the composition and from the technical point of view. I think that the best characteristic of the picture is the richness of the pavement's texture that gives to it a physical thickness which contributes largely to the picture's beauty.
Many compliments

I like the woman, her shadow & the very good pavement exposure. I'm not crazy about the round shadow toward the bottom. I don't know why time wasn't taken to fix the white spot at right. I really don't think the entire black section at the top is needed. Congrats on POW

I have just returned from browsing Alp's folder and must say that he has some wonderful,  original and quite inspired work uploaded. That being said, I do not much care for this photo.  The concept itself is cliche which is fine, however if you are going to work within a well visited conceptual framework you really do need to raise the bar to stand out and this image does not do that. As has been mentioned the small speck of light on the edge is distracting as is the globular secondary shadow. I also wish that the woman's shadow was longer or in some way imbued with more drama , rather than simple parroting her shape in a rather squat fashion.  The tonality of the pavement area is too uniform and murky, I thinks this could be improved upon with some adjustments. The dark section at the top does not bother me, although it is a bit awkward that the darkness contains the scene at the top but not at the bottom. All in all a nice photo but not an outstanding one.

Moderator note: Added from a later comment: Any one of us could easily find numerous versions of this very overworked idea of ' the lone figure with shadow backlit in an alley ' with a simple search of PN.

Dear Alp Kemal.
This shot is very interesting because of the shadows and details.
specially the shadow of the woman and the gesture and mood when she walking and moving her hand.
The other good things is the shadow that you see in both side(skew shadow),that makes the pic more impressive and beautiful.
The nice light is on the way that she walking...Thnx for sharing and very impressive shot.
Regards(Bobby).

I agree...the white spot on the left needs touching up.

Also, I think I would rotate the picture slightly in a counterclockwise direction. I realize the person is perfectly vertical, but somehow the overall composition feels a bit over rotated in the clockwise direction -- making it feel a bit unbalanced.

I agree the white spot on the right needs a bit of a touch up.
To me the picture feels a bit over rotated in the clockwise direction. I realize the picture is aligned vertically with the woman, but the overall feeling feels a bit unbalanced. Attached is a slightly counterclockwise rotated pic.

I've always felt that darkness tells as much a story as does light. Yes, light is often seen as a photographers best friend, but I think shades/ darkness equally can be if the photographer chooses them to be. Alp has presented a nice composition, balanced between light/darkness and subject. It appears the subject is moving away from the camera and so THAT together with the exposure add an element of mystery and intrigue. well done Alp
