pnital 36 Posted December 5, 2008 Even though the name on the dinghy is Ralph , the photo is dedicated to Dennis Aubrey,HERE my generous friend , host and guide, that has shown and revealed to me all the corners of natural beauty in Cape Cod. Thanks for viewing. Link to comment
bob_belanger 1 Posted December 5, 2008 Seems like a pretty funny name for a boat. But I can tell you this, I would not have passed on this shot either. This really suits my taste. Link to comment
aginbyte 0 Posted December 6, 2008 ... for the dedication, and for the smile you give me. I remember Ralph well, but didn't remember how still and calm the bay waters were that day. This is a wonderful black and white treatment, and I am proud to have spent the time shooting with you in Cape Cod. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted December 6, 2008 The boat is so often a photographic subject that it's hard to keep from making a cliche. I've seen similar shots that, while good, just don't rise to your level. Why your specific one works I don't know. Boats have a lot of inherent symbolism. The simplicity of this one with it's detailed reflection has a very tranquilizing effect. I know you will disagree with me, but I might have framed it without the clutter across the top. But I know you have your reasons, and I know that you are masterful in your compositional skills. Very nice my friend. Link to comment
daily_photograph 0 Posted December 6, 2008 Again a senseful quote of the surrounding, here in the north. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted December 6, 2008 Such a still capture. The empty dock and boat invite the viewer to enter the scene, sit down, and enjoy the view. The tones are so nicely captured. Crisp and tranquil. A lovely shot. Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted December 6, 2008 I like the simple clean lines. Well felt the stillness of the surrounding. Link to comment
CharlesBecker-Toronto 5 Posted December 6, 2008 a simple, beautiful image. regards, cb :-) Link to comment
lizweisiger 0 Posted December 6, 2008 This is a grand capture, Pnina. Beautifully composed and excellent BW tones. I think Ralph would be proud. Link to comment
celasun 0 Posted December 6, 2008 I loved your photo and my first reaction was "I would have cropped part of the upper portion". Now, after reading David Meyer's comment; all I can do is to declare that I agree with him! On the other hand, I can understand that without the upper part the photo becomes rather more coventional... Perhaps, that was the reason? Regards, Link to comment
maggies 0 Posted December 6, 2008 The shot as a whole is perfect in its simplicity...I feel if the top were cropped off the shot would lose its balance... that is my personal perception...Great B&W...Marjorie Link to comment
vetterhome1 0 Posted December 6, 2008 It made me smiling. I like the idea. If we cut the top to concentrate ? BR Joerg Link to comment
timzeipekis 5 Posted December 7, 2008 You've successfully captured the quiet, stillness of the scene. The B&W works perfectly here. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted December 7, 2008 Bob, I belive you ...;-)) and Alberto, thanks for liking and commenting. Dennis it is a small token for all the wonderful time I have had together with both of you ,and the special time you have devoted to show me all the beautiful spots Cape Cod has to offer! Dave,I will explain my reason to leave the upper part. First I tried it with out ,and it became regular and a bit boring for my taste, second reason , this part hints that there are more behind....;-)) and as a composition imo, it is richer that way. I'm glad you liked it Dave. Daily thanks for your point of view! Jeff , " Crisp and tranquil" fits my feeling for this location and spot. Cherlyn and Charles, thanks for appreciating the beautiful stillness and B/W conversion. Liz, " I think Ralph would be proud ", made me smile, of course I don't know him... Only his dinghi.... Bulent, you are right without it will be conventional, read my answer to Dave. Marjorie, glad you see it as myself, the upper part Imo adds to the whole. Jorg, I don't like it without the upper part ..;-)) Tim, thanks for adding your point of view. It fits my reasons ...;-)) Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted December 8, 2008 Pnina; I see I have some catching up to do in between spurts of snow shoveling. You've been a busy girl :-) I love the subdued tones in this. The entire image feels soft and gentle. I do not mean soft in terms of focus, rather that it feels to my eye like velvet would feel to my touch. Your B&W treatment pulls me in and wraps me in a warm blanket. I feel calm and content with no plans and no promises. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,612 Posted December 8, 2008 This is a very fine, and I'm sure, fitting tribute to Dennis. The shot is a beautiful capture of tranquility. There is nothing left to say. My best, michael Link to comment
peacecheck 0 Posted December 8, 2008 I truly enjoy the simplicity you captured and created with this image. The B/W tones work very well with the theme. Link to comment
janusz1 0 Posted December 9, 2008 Pnina... Your description says Still Life/Studio (?) I have seen studio creations that look as natural as can be... Either way... beautiful and serene Regards :) Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted December 9, 2008 to you Ahmet Gord, what a nice poetic description of your impressions ........" wraps me in a warm blanket"..... Wonderful And yes, I'm busy and photographing all the time... ;-)) Michael, thanks for your feedback! David P, nice to see you here, a long time....I hope you are well Janusz, sometimes I don't find the right category...as it is not exactly a landscape either.Still life was my choice , as still life it is , with the "studio "of nature....;-)) Thanks, glad to see you posting again. amalsircar 2 Posted December 9, 2008 Your Ode to Dennis Aubrey is beautiful. A classic ode is structured in three parts: the strophe, the antistrophe, and the epode. This image has three parts. Simple yet elegant composition ,very good exposure and tone. Pnina, let me thank you for introducing me to Dennis. His images are in classical mould . Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted December 11, 2008 It is a simple thanks to a nice human being and skilled photographer, that is doing a very nice project . I'm glad you liked his work that I find very interesting.thanks Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted December 11, 2008 very nice aesthetics, reflection and tone Pnina....what strike me most is the "Ralph" though...in this serene quiet, and unpersonnified scene, the "Ralph" mention project my mind to the person behind this little boat, probably used to join a larger boat anchored little away from here...it triggers imagination...
