jeffl7 0 Posted September 20, 2008 Seek and ye shall find. I had to scan the scene for a few moments to find the umbrella, and there it was exiting the doorway. I like how the white umbrella carries such emotional weight, conveying such individualism and balancing out the merged crowd of shadows waiting for the bus. Link to comment
maggies 0 Posted September 21, 2008 This is an eye-catching street scene...The black silhouettes against the grey day and one lone white umbrella adding a very personal touch..very well done..My best...Marjorie Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 21, 2008 ;-)) The white umbrella.....in all that black and gray .... nicely composed surrounding. This little white umbrella is ballancing the black and gray whole. very clever Laurent ! good DOF, and very well observed! Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted September 21, 2008 with or without the umbrella this is absolutely great stuff. It deserves to be printed large. These kind of quality photo's are few and far between. There is nothing, and I repeat nothing, that you possibly could have done better here. It's one of the best photo's I've seen in a long time. Link to comment

laurent-paul 1 Posted September 25, 2008 So nice to see you all leaving a comment here ... I thank you very much for the feedback. This is what happens when the sun starts to have a little fun, AND I can take the time to fiddle properly with all the settings to get a proper exposure. A hard raining day that was ( But hardly surprising for London ). I was actually trying to cover myself as I forgot to take an umbrella ( That should actually be surprising for a londoner ) and ened up in this location which is the back side of a big shop on Oxford Street ( Hence the very long window ). And while waiting for the rain to stop, the sun came out somewhere, and just started to hit the buildings on the other side of the street, which not only created a nice lighting, but especially created a really interesting reflection in the window display. And for once, I was able to really get the right exposure. What we can;t see here, but is really intereting on a large print, is that we can see the rain falling. And for the "lucky" part of the shot, I saw the white umbreall but later when the woman using it was walking under it. But it is only when I check the few shots I took that afternoon, that I discovered this one, with the "horizontal Umbrella". And it laso happened to be the better exposed version of all. And just to finish, this is probably the only full framed non cropped photo in my whole portfolio ... Link to comment
dougbrill 0 Posted September 26, 2008 Love this one! First glance it looked like a bus stop in the middle of the road. The play of the light and shadows works well, what is the subject, the light or the shadow? Great job here. All the best! Link to comment
lrenard 0 Posted September 27, 2008 This is a very good photo here. I like the contrast between the group of people and the "lonely umbrella"... it can remind us that people are sometimes together because of the nature impact ...and also the contrary (white umbrella)..;-) BRAVO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 2, 2008 Aside from the creative statement which is very good in itself, technically this photograph is prefectly realized. The balance you have achieved is extraordinary. Link to comment
Saadsalem 74 Posted July 2, 2016 One of the greatest prospectives I've ever saw. Regards. Link to comment
