a beauty David....the red sign leftover is just the little detail that is needed to add mystery (a crime scene ?)...it should have been irresistible to shoot...at least I am sure it would have been for me....

Based on your walk in the woods, I've decided you must have a masochistic side, and that piercing business is just a reflection of that. Clearly he is just sticking his tongue out. But did you notice the tear streaks coming from his left eye? Yes, something is making him cry.

Yes, indeed, it was irresistible. These things just have a way of popping up and shout for someone-anyone-to record their brief existence.

David, i am beginning to think it is these kind of wonderfully strange and bizarre places that find you, rather than the other way around. your reputation preceeds you, and they are just clamoring to become one of your images! by the way, how do you get to travel for a month??? no fair!

I don't blame you for envying me for the chance to travel. It is what I truly love doing. Last summer's trip was the trip of a lifetime, and I did not expect to be doing much future travel. But last October/November my sister in Iowa got gravely ill and had to spend some time in the hospital. My mother who was 91 at the time, could not take care of herself unassisted, and I knew my sister would need help herself when she got out of the hospital. So we took off for a month to help them out. This last trip was precipitated by a stroke that hit my mother. We were not sure that she could be brought home and that my sister would be able to provide the needed care. So off we went again. When things got settled down and mom started her recovery, we headed back. The thing is that I cannot just seem to go from point A to point B. Give me a few days and some maps, and I'm all over the place. So we headed up through South Dakota, and then to Montana. I got to Lewistown, Montana the day of fellow Pnetter (and all around great person) Susan Stones's show opening. We walked in to the reception for her, and you should have seen her jaw drop. Talk about shock!

From there it was down to Yellowstone and Jackson Hole, then over the north side of Salt Lake and down into eastern Nevada. Went north to south on the east side of Nevada, and eventually hit an interstate to Las Vegas and home.

So, it wasn't all fun, but it was great after the serious stuff was dealt with. Needless to say being retired has helped to find the time, but isn't much help in financing my travel. Truth be known, if I live too long, I'll be out of money and living on very little money. So, I'm going to have my wings clipped here pretty soon.

I have a few more images from the trip that I'll be posting for the next couple of weeks.

Dave, that is life , sorry for all the sad events in your family, but at least some enjoyment with your photographic work, was some compensation...;-))

This is so funny, cool, and so compatible to your observant eye.A naive painter lives behind that door.....

Enjoying to have you back, David.

Cool image,David. Sorry to learn about the recent happenings in your life. But I am quite sure your wings will not be clipped and you will soar high in the realms of imagination & beauty, as usual.

Sorry to hear about the events that prompted your trip. I think the color accurately reflects the face's mood. I will share this with you. When I took my latest pics from NY it was not because I planned to be there for fun. I was coming back from seeing my mother who was hospitalized and since I had a layover connection I made the most out of it. Sometimes one has to make the most out of a situation.

Thanks for the comment. Sorry to hear of your misfortunes in the family illness department. You need not worry about me unless you see me lose interest in taking pictures. When that happens, I will probably be in my final days. Everyone needs something that gives their life meaning and keeps them sane. For me it is the observation of the sometimes goofy, sometimes horrifying world, and the attempt to bring my view of it to others by means of my photography.

My eye keeps coming back to the red plastic hanging from the doors: a balloon? crime scene tape? It's a nice splash of color and curiosity in this typically DM scene. The presentation, square and centered, works well here.

Thanks. I probably would have taken this image without that red plastic there, but I agree with you that it adds far more to the image than its size would warrant.
