pnital 36 Posted March 3, 2008 Adding the colored version as well, thanks for your thought, which one? Link to comment
jenniferleigh 0 Posted March 3, 2008 There's more drama in the sepia toned version over the color. IMHO In the sepia version it becomes less of a "drive-by" snapshot Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted March 3, 2008 The sepia toned works better for me. I'm struck with the admixture of the straight divisions of the land for farming, and the seemingly random growth of the city. Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted March 3, 2008 Dramatic and intense capture Pnina. The clouds are key in this composition from adding interest to the background to forming a shadow that is reflected on the field. I interpret the slow moving dark shadow as the encroachment of urban development into nature. Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted March 3, 2008 I love the color version. It's alive, light, delicate, blooming. Link to comment
daily_photograph 0 Posted March 3, 2008 You are not influenced by Richard Hans? :-)) Classic harmony! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted March 3, 2008 I agree with the above. The sepia definitely eliminates that "drive by" feeling from the color version. BUT, that said, I DO like the colors and the range represented in the color version. Hmmmmmm....... Link to comment
lbattjes 0 Posted March 3, 2008 My vote goes to the sepia version...IMO, the color version is nice but somewhat ordinary, whereas the sepia version grabs my attention and makes me wonder not only "where" is this, but "when". Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted March 3, 2008 i also prefer the sepia. it seems to have more impact, both visually and emotionally Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted March 4, 2008 I see that most go's for the sepia version which basicly is my preferance as well because of nother earth colors. Jennifer ,for your visit and comment David, I agree wit you... Adan,The clouds and the form of the field were attracting my attention too. Donna, I'm glad you liked the color form too, as it is the natural colors of the fields. Daily, you know me well, so you know that I have my own style ...LOL Lou Ann, sepia and color, Good ! Leslie and Linda, Sepia.... ;-)) Thanks again all of you. Link to comment
jcpopper 0 Posted March 4, 2008 I love this version, pnina. The tones are wonderful! A very fine composition. Warm regards, Joe Link to comment
davidorea 1 Posted March 4, 2008 Excellent landscape, Pnina. I prefer the color version with exquisite colors. Regards! Link to comment
petemillis 0 Posted March 4, 2008 Pnina, I like the colour version, but I LOVE the sepia tint version. It evokes something far more moody and timeless. I like the point written above about how the shadow appears to depict the encroachment of urban development - something we are seeing far too much of over here round these parts! Very well done in terms of tones and composition. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted March 5, 2008 Hey, you're getting pretty good at this landscape stuff. This is a real beauty, the sharp detail of the foreground giving way to the softer expanse of open field and finally what looks like a sprawling town beyond the treeline, half obscured by clouds and the misty distance. kirk d 0 Posted March 5, 2008 Jack described this perfectly! Additionally, what makes me keep looking at this is the large shadow from the cloud in the field and the cloud appearing to reach down and touch the ground almost like a hot air balloon. May I ask about the sepia tone. Is this an old film image or converted from your current digital camera? If its a conversion, did you have a particular reason for going sepia? Not that there is anything wrong - I like it, just curious. Kirk Link to comment
andrea allison 0 Posted March 5, 2008 Lovely pnina! I like your tones! Kind Regards Andrea Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted March 6, 2008 In this case, I like the sepia toned version the best. It unifies the shot, creating a timeless experience of this grand scene. I found a photo that you might find of interest. http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=7017392 Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted March 6, 2008 To all of you, for the nice feedback, and your vote for the Galilee landscapes! Kirk, it was taken a short time ago on my way to the Galilee. I converted the series to Sepia, as it is the colors of mother earth ,and for me it is childhood memories of this color. My father was a farmer and loved cultivating the brown soil. The sepia IS timeless as mother earth is.... Jeff, thanks so much for both! your comment and the link! it moved me deeply. I have commented there. Link to comment
vancouverphotographer 1 Posted March 6, 2008 Both are great shots - I find it hard to choose between the two but this sepia maybe jumps out at you more because it's a little different. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted March 6, 2008 For me the sepia is the one. The composition is so strong it does not need the colour, if anything the colour detracts from the strength of the lines. Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted March 6, 2008 A superb landscape in sepia Pnina...I like the clear view all over to the clouds....the light and clouds shadow on the ground is nice too... for me two versions color or sepia have a different meaning: sepia immediately refer to nostalgy while the color is actual and realistic...two different styles....today I am for sepia but tomorrow I may like the color better...changing mood....:-)... kirk d 0 Posted March 6, 2008 Thanks Pnina, those are good reasons! Silly me did not even see your first comment where you asked the question about Color or Sepia. So, for the record, I like the sepia better. I like the colors of the original but it lacks some contrast and punch that the sepia boldy shows. Plus, that cloud coming down to touch the ground is almost lost in the grey mountains in the background of the color version where here, it stands out a little better. Kirk Link to comment
