dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted February 13, 2008 After posting several b/w versions of this sign over the years, I think I prefer it in color. What do you think? Please visit href="http://www.dmogalleries.com">www.dmogalleries.com. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted February 13, 2008 I'm with Lauren on that. I think the bright colored buildings in the background make it more interesting. If I went with the black and white, however, I might try upping the contrast a bit. Love these old signs you seem to find everywhere. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted February 13, 2008 I didn't take the time to do this right, but I think if you select the sign and lighten it up a little with levels, that it is better. But I understand that that may not be your vision. Link to comment
dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted February 13, 2008 Thanks, David. You know, the sign appears much lighter when I look at it in Photoshop or on my desktop wallpaper than it appears on photo.net. I'm not sure why this would be the case, but it is too dark as it is presented here. I may play around and repost a special lighter version for photo.net. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted February 14, 2008 Much better. I forgot to ask you about the "APEPKA" on the sign. I speak a bit of Spanish and know Botica, but was wondering if the other word is Spanish or another language. Any idea? Link to comment
dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted February 14, 2008 Got me, David. I took French for ten years. Judging by the neighborhood, I would guess it's Polish. I realize that my home computer has the brightness jacked way up b/c the sun shines on the screen. I'll keep that in mind in the future, and I appreciate you pointing it out to me. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted February 14, 2008 No problem. I try to be careful when making suggestions, and, if someone does not like them, I take no offense. One thing I think we all have to be sensitive to is that not everyone has the same vision, and so what I might think would enhance an image, might be anathema to the creator of the image. You might be right about the Polish. It also vaguely resembles the word for pharmacy in Swedish. This must have been a hell of a mixed neighborhood in it's day. Or, maybe the "Botica" is Polish too. dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted February 14, 2008 There's a strong Swedish history around there too (it's a real United Nations), so that's a possibility as well. Link to comment
