petemillis 0 Posted February 9, 2008 Jeff, this is a beautifully natural photograph. Great colours/tones and composition. Focus though may be ever so slightly off (or is it my eyes - I dunno!) just seems that the girl's hair to this side of the near eye is sharper than the eye itself. I find it hard though sometimes - there's a balance between getting the shot and faffing around missing it because you had to spend a moment longer thinking about focus. Here I think the subject is more important than perfectly sharp eyes. Link to comment
davidorea 1 Posted February 9, 2008 Very nice portrait, Jeff. The child's expression, colors and light are great. Perfect caption for this windy scene. Regards Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted February 9, 2008 A very nice job of getting up close and personal. The hair criss crossing and the shadow adding to the effect works out really well. Lovely image Jeff. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted February 9, 2008 Pete: Thanks for an accurate comment. I finished this one a week ago, but was troubled that the eyes weren't quite as sharp as I'd like. However, I kept coming back to the spontaneous feel of the shot and though that seemed more important than the tack-sharp features I normally strive for. You my thoughts into words perfectly. Cynthia: Gabi was feeding goats at a petting zoo after swimming with her grandma. Relaxed is a good descriptor. David O: Thanks. I liked the messy feel with the hair whipping around. It's hard enough to keep the kid still, but with the wind, the shot was almost impossible. David M: Thanks. This was actually taken with a wide-angle lens (at about 28mm). I'm finding that getting close with a wide-angle makes for a more dramatic shot than using a telephoto. Anyhow, thanks a bunch. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted February 9, 2008 Thanks. This is my daughter, age three. She can't take a bad picture. Link to comment

There are a lot of your own images,AND those of your children as well! Link to comment
paula grenside 0 Posted February 11, 2008 Cute little girl and lovely portrait. I especially like the hair fluttering over her face and the expression in her eyes. Link to comment
dianadeaver 0 Posted February 11, 2008 Jeff...she is so beautiful! Wow! So much substance in this image! Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted February 11, 2008 A gorgeous shot. Her pensive expression is engaging and the lack of sharpness might be a reflection of her state of mind. Her eyes look at the distance as if she is parting from something or someone dear to her heart. That might not be the case but I like to dramatize and see it that way. At least that is the feeling that you convey to me. Link to comment
adelah 0 Posted February 11, 2008 Ah ah ah, the face of your beautiful little angel:) nothing can be wrong here:) Link to comment
Emmanuel Enyinwa 0 Posted February 11, 2008 I can never get tired of looking at these. What can I say, I share the same addiction. Years from now, we'll both look back and say that we were there. Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted February 12, 2008 I like the naturality here, her windblown hair, her slightly serious face & soulful eyes make this a very touching image. Link to comment
rogerleekam 0 Posted February 12, 2008 Jeff, another fine portrait of your favorite model. Excellent light and somewhat apprehensive expression is very charming. Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted February 13, 2008 Wet messy hair, warm lighting, and a wistful expression with the bottom corner reminding one of a box of crayons. A nice summery portrait of "kiddom." (Is that a word?) Anyway, both the photograph and your daughter are beauties. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted February 13, 2008 I want to offer deep thanks for your kind comments regarding this vacation photo of my kid. I wish I had a stretch of time to respond individually to each of your warm, thoughtful comments. Given the recent news that many of our photos have been posted without our permission to another site (with some rather unsettling advertisements, I might add), I'm going to stop posting pics of my kids or others' kids. A risk management issue. You guys have always been generous and patient when I posted photos of my kids (akin to those parents who drag photo after photo from their wallet to bore their captive audience). Again, I appreciate you all so much for helping to hone me into a better, more thoughtful photographer. Link to comment
