bosshogg 4 Posted November 30, 2007 I love your presentation here. It gives us all the information we need to know. I'll never forget those years when I was in the Peace Corps in Colombia, when Bobby and Marin Luther King were assassinated. Here I was living in an exceedingly violent country where death was so common, yet they had not had any national figures assassinated. It was a difficult time personally and it was difficult to explain just what the hell was going on in my country. This is a wonderful rendition. Link to comment
jcpopper 0 Posted November 30, 2007 Thanks so much. I'm glad you noticed this, and I knew that if anyone did, it would be you. I also remember that year all too well. Everything changed then... everything. Warm regards, Joe Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted November 30, 2007 Yes, I know this is supposed to reach back into the past, but I immediately thought of the coming year. I like how you've captured the one eye looking up. I like your crop. To me, it represents continued hope not fully realized as yet. Link to comment
jcpopper 0 Posted November 30, 2007 My comment above was not about the image, but, rather, about my own memories. Your reaction is much like what I felt when I took and processed this shot. Link to comment
baerbel 0 Posted November 30, 2007 Interesting image, Joseph. I like the crop and color scheme of red, black and blue, and depending on our age and back ground, we may have different reactions to it. I feel you said more with less here. The dark back ground and the eye look almost foreboding. I lived overseas at the time, but the Kennedys were extremely popular throughout the world, and especially John, assassinated a few years earlier. People were openly crying on the street when he was killed. At the time the above image was taken, there was lots of protest against an unpopular war, of course. Sooo, not much new under the sun....except - no draft - 50% of our forces in Iraq are now highly paid mercenaries, and the press is in the hands of just a few powerful conglomorates, who incidentally also have weapons and oil interests. jcpopper 0 Posted December 1, 2007 Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I, too, think it looks a bit foreboding. It is not an accident. Link to comment
joe-tury 0 Posted December 1, 2007 It has the look of those old "b" movie posters, graphically. I like the light near his eye, giving us a glimmer of hope, perhaps. Really good work. Link to comment
bretsch 0 Posted December 3, 2007 Very interesting crop, actually is so well achieved that it is what makes the picture a whole. Congratulations! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted December 4, 2007 Great shot. As mentioned, the crop seems exactly as it should be to convey the most. You've actually added to this scene by removing just the right amount of it. I love the way the blue cast carries through onto his face. All of us who are old enough were changed by those assassinations, as was the country and the world, for the worst. We are seeing the "worst" played out right now. It's bad and we're all stuck with it, made almost helpless by political forces which have conspired to make us little folk meaningless. There's hope in that eye, yes, but it turns to sadness and resignation all too quickly. If a photograph stirs such memories and connection among its viewers, I deem it a success. Link to comment
mmene 0 Posted December 4, 2007 Days of the 60ties very strong in our mind. I was at high school and when we heard it we feel the ice in our heart. Bravo my friend. History always teach us. Link to comment
glaucodattini 0 Posted December 4, 2007 Very beautiful capture. The crop is well conceived, because stimulates the cogitation. In the 60' in Europe we had the same dreams and hopes. Best regards. Glauco Link to comment
vicenteconcha 8 Posted December 4, 2007 Half word and a quarter of face is enough to launch an image, an idea, a suggestion. Obviously this quarter of a image has more visual impact that the entire image. Excellent work. Best wishes. Vicente. Link to comment

sonneland 0 Posted January 8, 2008 Joseph, a very powerful image here from a very good photographer. Its all been pretty well said above. The 60's were a crazy, wonderful, scary time. On the West coast it was pretty much sex drugs and rock and roll. When John Kennedy was killed it was like losing your best friend, the world as we knew it changed. In my life there have been two events that seemed to really alter the way we are as human beings one was the assassination of John Kennedy the other was 9/11. I find it very scary what is happening now in the world, its like we somehow don't learn from our mistakes. Anyway Joseph this is a incredible image. Well done my friend. All the best.........roger Link to comment
sonneland 0 Posted January 9, 2008 Joseph, part of the criteria for a good image to me is how long it stays in my mind and how much it makes me think. I went to bed last night and your image would not go out of my head. I thought about those turbulent times, there was a third happening that changed the world for ever for me, that was the assassination of Martin Luther King. I can remember walking around in a daze feeling utterly lost and bewildered. Yes your image has made me think and remember those days, for that I say thank you. Link to comment
