markonestudios 4 Posted October 17, 2007 Hi Alberta :) A great capture. I daresay it would be even stronger compositionally if cropped a bit. See attached...Best regards from Kenya,Mark Link to comment
alberta_pizzolato 21 Posted October 17, 2007 Or is it Mark Anthony? Thank you for your comments and vote and for taking the time to crop this heron photo. I do like the crop and square format - very dramatic. I also like the original verison which includes the bird's white shadow on the water and gives his flight a sense of purpose, being anchored to land a bit by the presence of the dock in the background. For me, it's always a great photo.net day when I get new ideas from other photo.net members, especially great photographers like you :) Thanks again. Link to comment
godfather 0 Posted October 17, 2007 Like those both versions. I would like to know how far did you took this shot and which focal lenght. I believe that this is pretty big bird. rgs Tero Link to comment
glaucodattini 0 Posted October 17, 2007 I like a bit more your version. The dark area topside contrasts with the clear bird and so emphasizes the main subject. Best regards! Glauco Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted October 17, 2007 I like seeing the pilings at the top and the reflection under the bird. I think you got this one just right! Link to comment
alberta_pizzolato 21 Posted October 17, 2007 REVISED: The bird was flying about 10 feet offshore from my dock. This shot was taken with the Nikon (grabbed the wrong file - thought it was a more recent Minolta shot) and I've added the technical information to the photo Details. The wing span of a Great White Heron can be up to 182 cm (72 inches). Thanks for your comment and rating :) Link to comment

gatzelis 1 Posted October 17, 2007 A very beautiful shot Alberta the way you frame with the darkness on the top. Nice framing with the bird just on time and that cool reflexion on the water. Congrats. Looking around so many great photographers its difficult to rate 7. By Statistic they keep on being on the top so i ll rate with my moods. Link to comment

gordonjb 10,860 Posted October 30, 2007 I like your original crop. The pilings give a sense of place and I love that white reflection on the water it has such a gentle pastel feel to it and juxtaposes well with the clarity of your very sharp heron image. Link to comment
