erikadams 0 Posted November 26, 2007 The use of a fisheye lens creates a curvature to the horizon, which reminds me of the curvature of the earth. Nice effect. I also like the use of a red filter, to darken the sky. However, I think the photo could be balanced better by removing some of the empty space at the bottom, perhaps eliminating most of it by cropping to a square format. Link to comment
michael anderson 0 Posted November 26, 2007 Wow, I love the dynamic nature of this image. Everytime I open it, there is an optical illusion of the shadow in the lower right corner moving up the dune- I've never seen this effect in any other landscape. A truly unique piece of art! Congratulations on the photo of the week honor! Link to comment
Carolyn D 44,175 Posted November 26, 2007 How you manage to get all textures in this image is awesome.Absolutely stunning image. Link to comment
yongbo 0 Posted November 27, 2007 The vignetting effect is not necessary, it ruined the picture. Link to comment
jesse_starks 0 Posted November 27, 2007 Nice photo Charles; I love the ripple pattern in the sand. The low setting sun did much to bring this out. The sky is a touch dark and as I explore the frame I stop at there. Jesse Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted November 27, 2007 It's an excellent use of the fisheye. I'm wondering though, if there's not too much vignetting at the bottom Link to comment
AJHingel 127 Posted November 27, 2007 I agree that the heavy vignetting is not helpful. Commenting on what is left for us to admire, and it is certainly admirable, I find the B/W work very well done, but wonder why we need to see the right side of the scene. It does not add to the composition and is in my eyes mostly disturbing. Link to comment
davidroossien 0 Posted November 27, 2007 I like the way area in the upper right appears to grow upward from the edge of the dark area, when in reality it sinks downward into a valley. It's difficult for the eye to detect detail around the edge of that shape. The big sweeping bands from right to left seem to trick the mind into thinking there is a hill over there. Link to comment
kristina_kraft 0 Posted November 27, 2007 Awesome! 7/7! It's very original, and at the same time it is odd, sensual as female body. It's just how I feel. The vignetting effect has certain dynamic because of its misterious notion. Like the whole scene is emerging from this black void. This is dramatic! But the most interesting part of the image is a photographer's vision and his beautiful sense of how he did it, of how he created. This is creation of his vision which somehow influence on my feelings like a touch of a beautiful man. Link to comment
austinphotoartist 0 Posted November 27, 2007 The "heavy vignetting" reminds me of a Velazquez painting. The figure emerging from the ground adds a touch of the surreal. It's a beautiful work of art. Link to comment
Uhooru 2,207 Posted November 27, 2007 Nice image. I think the black on the bottom works to balance a very dynamic composition. That with the extreme tonality, the high contrasted textures and the subtle grey tones at the top, plus the very nice use of the fish eye here, to good effect. It gives the feeling that this is a very small desert island of a planet. Pretty cool. Link to comment
color 3 Posted November 28, 2007 Well, it's a really good image, but I think a good alternate version would be to have a much lighter sky. As is it wraps the rest of the image in darkness, still, it's very good. Link to comment
mikejanocko 0 Posted November 28, 2007 Amazing! Can I ask what film was used in this case? Did you do a lot of darkroom work on this photograph? Thanks for the inspiration! Cheers! Link to comment
