I don't know how limited your chances to move have been. According to my rough guess you might have had a chance to include the entire bike without cropping any part of Judy by shooting the pic in landscape orientation. With a bit of luck and backing away or lowering your POV, you could have included the lowest row of the flag's stars, to explain the striped background.

 

As it is the picture would make a mediocre magazine frontpage leaving space for text. Any other purpose doesn't justify croping the bike IMHO.

I did about 3 or 4 shots of this bike. If you want to see the whole bike, Go to my web site at www.RobValineimages.com This particular photo is more about Judy than the bike. Hence the title "East Penn Biker Girl Judy" I think she looks great in this photo. It's a very flattering photo of her. If I had been more concerned with bike it would have distracted attention from the subject which is the model and if it was about the bike, It would have been titled differently. I did try the framing you are talking about and decided that this was the best way to go.
