dberryhill 3 Posted January 19, 2007 My apologies to those who've seen this little church too often already. It is one of my favorite subjects. Link to comment
danield 0 Posted January 19, 2007 I like the subject and feeling in the picture - simple but beautifully framed and great light. Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted January 19, 2007 Thanks Daniel. This little church is one of my favorite subjects. I've been shooting it for a long time. Link to comment
aslavihervuori 0 Posted January 20, 2007 Surprisingly for me, I do not care so much about church itself; it is just canvas, where light and shadows play. Like in tree right, too. Do not get me wrong, nothing wrong in church, either ;) You have taken best out of sky, too. That is what I think. There is very good contrast without ultimate blackness. Overall for me this is picture with drama and silence same time. I love it. No ratings, a s l a Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted January 20, 2007 Asla, thanks sincerely. For me, the significance is that this is a place where for many years, people in this little community have gathered, and shared their joy, their grief, and their sense that they have an obligation to live lives of discipline and compassion. No doubt it has also been a place where they have shared their pettiness and their selfishness. But such is human history. And that is what interests me. Link to comment

jim kerr 0 Posted January 20, 2007 Doug, It doesn't look to me like you have worn this church out. To me, you have a very good way of printing this image, the contrast is high enough to give it great impact without being too high......Jim Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted January 20, 2007 Tim and Jim, I 'preciate it! Jim, this was converted to gray using PS calculations, which for me is a new toy. With some conversions, it works wonderfully. I don't have a clue what I'm doing, but just play with it until I see something I like. Link to comment
dave holmes 0 Posted January 20, 2007 It's easy to see why you like it so much! Thanks for posting. Dave Link to comment
janiebarber 0 Posted January 20, 2007 I absolutely love this shot!!! Great shadows and skies. Whatever you did in PS seems to have worked out for you. Sam and I both have PS and he has worked with it somewhat but from what I have seen of it, I think I need to be a Philadelphia lawyer!!! LOL One of these days, maybe. Link to comment
janiebarber 0 Posted January 20, 2007 P.S. I think that is something like teaching an old dog new tricks!! Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted January 21, 2007 Thanks everyone. Your comments mean a lot. Janie, we old dogs can learn new tricks. We just have to re-learn today what we thought we'd learned yesterday. Link to comment
evb 0 Posted January 21, 2007 Doug, this is a very classical shot, but the brooding sky and the wonderful light on the trees and the church itself make it very special. As someone else said, this is not really about the church at all, though the building does anchor the image. I'm loving your photographs. Link to comment
clivefox 1 Posted January 23, 2007 Doug, This a wonderful BW image. I like the white seat bottom right that adds interest to that lower third. Great work Regards Clive Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted January 23, 2007 I thought this was one I had alredy commented upon, and after further reading I realize that this is a different one of the same subject. Not having the other one to compare, I don't recall it having the wonderful lighting on the church. The shadows are just absolutely superb. This is without a doubt one of your best images. laurent_jaussi 0 Posted January 23, 2007 wonderful image...the light is superb...center composition works here very well with the trees on either side...clouds texture add a moody touch...congrats, Laurent. Link to comment
nickmeertens 0 Posted January 30, 2007 Divine light indeed! Excellence is what comes to mind. Best, Nick Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted April 5, 2008 Doug, traveling a bit in your work, the strong play of light and shadow on the white church vs. the dark trees and soft BG are creating a very beautiful photo. The darker R side is illuminated a little and the white bench adds to the harmony of the whole. Beautiful observation and execution Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted March 24, 2013 Doug, Somehow I've missed this one over the years. For me...the finest photograph in your portfolio. This is simply masterful. I'd be tickled silly if I ever took one picture of this caliber!Regards,John Link to comment
