juan-de-santa-anna 0 Posted November 14, 2006 So different from old rotting buildings oozing pollution...!? I like this image mucho! Maybe a tad to many leaves in the foreground for my taste...but she gave you a nugget and you did well with it...The background leaves...top 1/3...bottom leaves 2/3...preciouse smile...7/7 in my book! VWM Does this mean we'll see some puppies and flowers from you soon? Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 14, 2006 Thanks for the compliment. Of course, I am very partial to the young lady, as all grand dads are, so I cannot evaluate the photo. I just know she's the apple of my eye. I did feel that a little break from the standard compositonal rules was permissable, so I left all the leaves in front. No, I am not getting soft and snuggly. Okay? I shall remain the grump you know me as. Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted November 14, 2006 I see that you like the young as well as the old. A lovely girl and a wonderful image of her. Do you suppose that with a different aperture setting that you could have gotten the foreground leaves into focus too? I would have liked that better. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 14, 2006 Thanks. No excuses, but it was kind of a grab shot, and I left the camera on full auto. Thus the depth of field. Personally I don't mind the leaves in the foreground being out of focus. It's sort of like vignetteing (sp?). And, of course, there are the more traditional that would have me crop the bottom away, which would also resolve some of the problem. But the girl is the obvious focus, and the rest is just color, so I don't feel the need to have it in sharp focus. I do feel the pic would be of equal quality either way, and both approaches are valid. Thanks for coming by and taking the trouble to give an opinion and share your considerable expertise. susan stone 0 Posted November 16, 2006 Here's my take on the leaves........the main focus of the image is the very cute little girl, the story is about how much fun she's having in the leaves so the more the merrier, and I don't mind the foreground "soft" 'cause it leads us into the sharper focus of the child and goes soft again in the background giving her center stage. From her perspective she's loving that pile of leaves to play in and I like the shadowy lighting on her face. Proud indeed Grandpa! Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 16, 2006 Thanks so much, and. yes, I am bursting with pride when I'm with this one and her brother. They make me so happy. As to the the technical aspects, I see it the way you do, but there is nothing overtly wrong with any of the criticisms. Link to comment

laurent_jaussi 0 Posted November 17, 2006 I like the idea and the leaf colors matching the little girl's hair...maybe her head is too close to the above border (my personal taste I confess)..regards, Laurent. Link to comment
