namurray 0 Posted February 14, 2006 Taken on the beach this morning. This wag tail and its mate kept flying around me and chirping. It alighted on a piece of bark long enough for me to get this photo. Link to comment

birteragland 1 Posted February 22, 2006 Beautiful shot, detail is excellent, your background colouring superb.TIP..to get the wrens, find where they are sit down quietly, have a little bread with you, toss it in the vicinity and just wait.I can get them to come up to me within 2 meters that way. jon thornton 0 Posted March 18, 2006 That's a very nice Willy. I'm yet to get one that I'm happy with. I'd be happy with this one. May I pretend that I took this photo? Link to comment
namurray 0 Posted March 18, 2006 Thanks for the comment Jon. Glad you like the photo. I rather like these little birds. They have such a defiant expression at times. There are plenty around on Phillip Island but I find it hard to catch them under suitable conditions - lighting, pose, background etc. I was walking along the beach one morning with my camera when this little fellow flew up onto a bank of sand and perched on the piece of bark just long enough for me to get this shot. jon thornton 0 Posted March 18, 2006 You hit the nail on the head when you said these birds are defiant! I have seen Willy Wagtails chase away birds ten times their size. I once saw a Willy Wagtail chase away a Wedge-tailed eagle. I am ambivalent about Willy Wagtails. Sometimes I enjoy their cheeky antics and their acrobatic flight displays. Sometimes however, I think that Willy Wagtails are a curse. I would probably have a good Kestrel shot and a good Sacred Kingfisher shot if a Willy Wagtail had not chased away my subject at the crucial moment. Well done for controlling the shadow and highlight detail on this very contrasty specimen. Link to comment
