lex_jenkins Posted April 16, 2004 Share Posted April 16, 2004 This one is terrific. Rather than merely busy, the young woman's cautiously interested gaze, unconventional cropping and that big-butt manequin come together. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

edmo Posted April 16, 2004 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Mike,
These are the shots that grabbed my eye the most and that I felt told me the most about El Paso.
04 = http://www.photo.net/photo/1690204
$3.99 = http://www.photo.net/photo/2289848
07 = http://www.photo.net/photo/1697859
Some of the other shots although good I feel could have been shot anywhere. Another thing that grabbed my eye is the toning of the images. To me it seems that if all the shots had the same toning it would read much better as a series.
Anyway, nice project your undertaking and I hope to see more. Thanks. connealy Posted April 16, 2004 Author Share Posted April 16, 2004 Thanks for taking the time to look at the folder. I've been collecting images from El Paso for about a year; the results are scattered around in several folders and represent a variety of experiments with equipment, technique and presentation. One of these days, I'll try to pull together something more coherent, and perhaps add some words. My general approach to this sort of thing is to look for images that I feel will have some value to people who view them 25 or 50 years from when they were taken. Of course, that is a tricky business as it involves predicting the future. However, when I look back on similar projects I undertook many years ago, I find that it is a methodology which seems to have worked, at least for me. markskelly Posted April 22, 2004 Share Posted April 22, 2004 Really great stuff, Mike. 04 and 12 are my faves. In 04, I like how the stack of plastic wrapped trays, crowned with the .69 cent sign, dominate the guy with the hat and the almost invisible charecter behind the glass. It seems to place the bargain aspect of the restaraunt as more important than the people themselves. In 12, I just like the easygoing nature of the guys. It's kind of funny how they're both sort of similarly shaped. The smile on the guy on right makes the shot. Again, awsome stuff. Congrats. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
