Rick Waller
Ok...I made the jump to digital with a D2H. Anyone have any comments on the relative merits of Nikon Capture software with other Raw manipulating software like Capture One's entry level product. I don't think I am prepared to spend the big bucks for full blown Capture One, unless it is so far superior to all other such software that it is worth the stretch financially. ellis_vener_photography
Do you have Photoshop CS? If so you already have an excellent NEF converter. If you have a legit copy of an earlier version of Photoshop the upgrade price is $169.00. I have the full version of Capture One and think it is also terrific but right now tend to use PsCS more. Ed_Ingold
NikonView, which is free with the camera, has a plug-in for Photoshop to convert RAW images. Capture is only needed to use the camera in tethered mode, or to edit the images. Capture's editing capabilities don't approach those of Photoshop. roland_larson
I just come to realize that Graphic Converter bundled with Mac OS X does have an import option named as "Nikon D1 NEF". My version is v4.4, bundled with OS X 10.2.2 which I subsequently upgraded to 10.2.8
I have no Nikon raw files at hand to test it; it is a Mac-only software, so it may or may not be helpful. Please also have a look at Lemkesoft of Germany :)
sf_photo1
Nikon Editor, free (but large) download as part of Nikon View allows for several handy manipulations but no batch feature that I can find. I want to find ACR v1 Mac for PS7 pacth for the D70. You don't mention your platform but look into Bibble (both) and QPict (Mac) also. -Andrew
