Digital negatives

Recommended Posts

I'm experimenting with digital negatives for gum printing. To see the

range of contrast I can get, I printer out a gradient, from 100% black

to 0%, and contact printed that. I did not get much tonal range in the

print. (<a href=http://alisoylu.no-ip.com/photo/gum/wedge.jpg><b>see

image here</b></font></a> ) (My 4x5 BW negative prints have a good

tonal range) Then I trid printing from a digital negative with 25% to

75% gray in it, and could not get a decent photo at all. (<a

here</b></a> [vertical lines from wrinkles]) Do you think this is due

to my printer? I'm using an epson Stylus CX6400 and Epson transparencies.

Hello Ali,

it looks like that you have a too high density on your "negatives". A way to work around is, to use a laser printer. They work different in the way the achieve gray. It is the density of single little black spots, but there is always a space between where the light can pass. It works excellent for my cyanos.

Best regards

Robert
