closeup filters

Has anyone out there used Pentax closeup filters in 67mm filter size

(T132, T266, S82)?? They are supposedly 2-element filters for Pentax

6x7 but I want to use them on my new 645 300/5.6 IFED.

Are they much better than single element filters from B&W or

Heliopan? At over $100 new it seems rather pricey.

Nikon makes 2-element closeup filters (5T, 6T) in 62mm filters for

around $35. I could use stepping rings, the front element of the

300/5.6 is small enough, but I'd rather not so I can fit the lens cap

on.

Any ideas, commnents or suggestions welcome

These lenses are of 2-elements and very high quality. The main

difference between them and the Nikon units might be the

diopter strength.

The S-82 (for 90/2.8 and 105/2.4) yields a maximum

magnification of 1:4.1 on the 90mm, and 1:3.7 on the 105mm. It

can also be used on the 150/2.8 and 200/4 with "minimum loss

of optical performance" according to Pentax, and the

magnification will be greater than on the other lenses, but I'm not

sure what it will be.

The T-132 (for the 150/2.8 and 200/4) gives 1:4.1 on the 150mm,

and 1:3.8 on the 200mm.

The T-226 (for the 200/4 only) gets to 1:5.2.

All of the above magnifications are with the focusing rings set to

the closest focusing positions, and they no doubt can be used

on the latest versions of these lenses with step rings, ie the new

200mm.

I don't know how they would perform on a 300mm lens, but the

magnification will be greater than on the prescribed lenses.

The Nikon 5T will yield a maximun magnification on a 300mm

lens (with focus ring set to 5') of about 1:2, and the 6T on the

same lens will get you to about 1:1 or slightly more. Both give

excellent quality. Bob
