rich815
I know there's been some discussion about this on this site. The latest time, based on a Google search of this site, had someone who claimed they spoke with someone from Kodak who says it's not discontinued (as of last July or so). However, I just went to the Kodak site and on the Professional B&W film page highlights four B&W films: 400Tmax, 125 Plus-X Pan, 320 TXP and the Porta 400BW. Then just to the right of that it has two drop down menus. The first one says "Information on other Professional Black-and-White Films:" and in the drop down is T400CN, Tech Pan and Infra-Red. Then there's another drop down menu titled: "Support Information on Discontinued Professional Black-and-White Films:" and this drop down has such films as Tri-X (TX) and also the Tri-X Pan Professional (TXP, TXT).
So what gives? Is Tri-X (TX) really discontinued? Should I buy a freezer for the garage and fill it?
Please, if someone claims to "ask Kodak" and they say no please tell us WHO you spoke to. david_goldfarb
Old TX is discontinued and replaced with new 400TX made in the new plant. TXP and TXT have been replace with new 320TXP roll and sheet films. http://www.kodak.com/global/en/professional/products/films/bw/catalog/kodakTrixPanFilmTX.jhtml?id=0.1.16.14.21.28.34&lc=en
crackers_.
I marvel at some of these merchandising blunders. At one extreme is the Pentax Splatist and at the other is this oatmeal - domestic and imported.
tadge_dryja
Don't worry. When Tri-X gets discontinued, oh, you'll know. The collective howl will shake photo.net to it's foundations, and there will countless posts about it. I doubt it'll happen anytime soon though. At the freshman darkroom here there are always huge garbage bags full of thousands of empty 35mm tri-x cans.
kelly_flanigan1
Remember; in Watergate; they used 20 exposure rolls; instead of 36 exposure rolls; and didnt even remove the rolls from the paper boxes. Real James Bond here.
marek sramek
It is all about name. They changed the name from TX to 400TX which really means that the old TX is discontinued and substituted by the new one. But as many people mentioned in this forum, there are no major differences between the old and new TX.
jeff_lentz
FWIW I haven't really noticed a big difference between the trix320 and the new 320TXP sheet film. I haven't had any time to do any real tests yet but it looks fine. IIRC the only difference I've noticed is that it develops slightly faster now.
