mark_ryan2
Just bought my first F-1N with the AE finder after having A-1s and EOS gear and I have a couple of questions. 1. When I press the shutter button the matched needle display on the right will light-up, but the shutter speed display when in Ap. AE doesn't light. The "light bar" on the side of the prism does light up, but the one on the front does not. 2. In AE mode with FD breechmont lenses (I have a 200mm F4 SSC) I can't see the aperature. It seems they are not in the right place, being too far away from teh mount. Does anyone make a decal or sticker to put on the ring by the A lock button so you can see the Ap. setting? I'm loving it, just shot some TMAX100 through it and everything looks good mechanically. I was thinking I was going to have to go with a T90 (I just can't get used to the curves of the newer bodies) until I found that canon site from Malaysia- I didn't know the F-1 had spot metering. phil_aynsley
1. Only the vertical (RHS) meter scale has illumination. The horizontal (bottom) scale makes do with whatever ambient light is available. 2. The AE Finder is designed (as you have discovered) to read the aperture rings of NFD lenses only. I don't know of any stickers. As an aside the New F-1 doesn't actually need the AE Finder to provide Aperture Priority. All the finder does is provide meter/aperture readouts in the viewfinder. That is, you still get AP with the standard Eye Level Finder but with no v/f displays.
casualcollector
"Does anyone make a decal or sticker to put on the ring by the A lock button so you can see the Ap. setting?" Somebody did. I don't know who and imagine they've been obsolete for a long time.
awahlster
The F-1N's metering is determined by which metering pattern the screen you have installed has. the screens are marked with the pattern first then the style. The PE (partial metering/new split image)is the std. screen. If you want spot metering look for a screen marked SA SB SC SE (there is no SD)also in the very high price range are the super bright screens the AJ PJ SJ (all matte for long focal lenght 200mm and over) and the Ak PK SK (all matte for short focal lenght) these run around $100.00 average on ebay. psul_aul
Phil, That is the first I have ever heard of the F1N working in aperature priority mode without the AE finder. I just checked for myself and it seems you are right, it works!
phil_aynsley
Paul, It wasn't a feature they ever mentioned. :-)
pensacolaphoto
Hi, How would I get aperture priority with the F1N? I have used such cameras for over 15 years, and I never made use of this feature. Raid
pensacolaphoto
What should I do to get aperture priority? Should I put the aperture on some setting and the camera on "A" ?
gregory_nicholson
Hello, Select the red A on the shutter speed dial. Select your preferred aperture on the lens. Use the exposure compensation dial for correcting exposures on very light or dark subjects. Same function as the AE finder without the selected inf. In the viewfinder. (like using an SSC or breech lock lens) step 3) enjoy the savings!
