christopher perez
There's a question posted to the Digital Camera forum here on photo.net ( http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=007a5c ) that has me wondering about flash sync cord voltage and any potential damage it might do to Mamiya 7 or RZ equipment. Does anyone know, with certainty, what voltage levels the 7 and RZ can handle?
ellis_vener_photography
Well mamiya does. But since these are basically mechanical cameras you should be fine.
roger krueger
I've had a 200+ volt early 283 on an RZ with no trouble. I've had the same beast on my Olympus E-10 as well. This is really a far less prevalent problem than all the hysteria would make you think. There are a few consumer-level Canons and Nikons, mostly several years old, that have a real problem, especially if you remove a charged flash from the hot shoe in a manner that lets the high-voltage contact of the flash hit one of the TTL contacts. In fact, I don't think I've heard of a single case of body damage from high-voltage PC-terminal use, only from hot-shoe use.
