brianf
I am about to purchase a vast ammount of printing paper. I am wondering about the Epson semigloss vs the luster. I love the simi gloss (provided in the samples with the printer). It reminds me of Ilford Pearl photopaper. The problem is that there is no 11x17 (Why?!). Are the differences very great, I was thinking of getting the 8.5x11, and 13x19 in semigloss, and the 11x17 in luster. What are the main differences between these two? Should I just get all my paper in luster?
dennis_pereira
I've used both on the 2200 and they're pretty close to me both in surface look and image quality.
www.whitemountainphoto.com
I for one, prefer the semi-gloss. The luster is just a little to shiny for me, with that slight pebbled? look to the sheen. I certainly reccomend buying a small package and print with both before you go out and buy a "vast" amount of either one.
Brad_
Don't buy a "vast amount" of printing paper until you've run some samples of both through your printer. Only *you* can decide what *you* like. www.citysnaps.net
brianf
Well, by vast I meant 50-100 sheets. I guess I will be foreced to get Luster for the 11x17, why did Epson not make this size for simi-gloss? Strange.
Spearhead
Buy the Inkjet Art lustre instead. Basically the same paper (although one site thought it was better than the Epson) and a lot cheaper. rich815
Forget either of those Epson papers. I loved them for my 870 and 1160 printers with dye inks but with the 2200 I find the blacks and whites of images are too patchy. Instead I recommend the Ilford Smooth Pearl inkjet paper. Extremely similar to the Epson Lustre and prints much better on the 2200.
If the Epson reminds you of the Ilford Pearl photo paper I sort of think Ilford Smooth Pearl inkjet paper will too. Great stuff.
brianf
Are those papers said to have the same staying power as the Epson?
erickahler
There is a sample pack at www.inkjetart.com item number PA-SEMI-SAMPLE for $5.60 which "Includes 2 sheets of each: Premium Semigloss, Premium Luster, ColorLife". This way you can try both paper types and see for yourself which you like best while keeping the investment down. I use luster in my everyday printing buy you must judge for yourself.
