jonathan_moss Posted September 26, 2003 Posted September 26, 2003 Hi there, Just bought a second hand Pentax MV 1970's camera, similar to the K1000 but with auto shutter speeds. When i first got the camera, the image lightened and darked when turning the aperture ring. After loading the film, taking off the lens and putting it back on again, the image no longer changes in brightness when I turn the ring. What could be wrong? The aperture ring is still working, as the exposure lights in the viewfinder change as they are meant to when moving the ring, but the image stay the same. Any tips appreciated!
Jochen_S Posted September 26, 2003 Posted September 26, 2003 Well to me it seems you manged to insert your lens properly. You'll see if you unlock the k mount and turn the lens a little bit out the aperture will close agin. A diaphragm closing only for the actual exposure is quite usefull to focus more precisely and faster. Later Pentax models had extra levers to stop the lens down to check DOF, but you don't really need it if you cheat as described above.
andy_aitken Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 You don't have a problem - it's working just fine. When the image DOES get darker as you move the aperture ring is when you have a problem.
