OM-1 Problem ? Or just me...

I have just got my 1st OM-1. I am more used to digital cameras but

felt something was missing, so thought I would start learning with a

manual camera. The OM-1 suited my needs :)

However, I put a 24 exp. film through it and took a variety of

pictures - more than anything so I could get them sent off and

processed so I could make sure there were no problems with the body.

The problem I have found may not be a problem and might be my own

inexperience. After the film was finished I tried to wind it back,

but could not. When I do try, it seems very very tight. I get the

feeling if I were to try and apply any more pressure it would either

snap the film or damage the camera.

I must point out that the OM-1 I have has no instruction so it is

very possible that I am missing something glaringly obvious.

Another thought occured - perhaps I didn't load the film correctly.

TIA,

Andy

Andy,

Did you release the rewind clutch? On the front of the camera is a knob (for the lack

of a better word) with an R and arrow on the camera. Turn the knob 90 degrees in the

direction of the arrow. This will release the clutch then you can rewind the film (If you

didn't tear the film earlier.)

If that isn't it, check to see if are you turning the rewind knob the wrong way. There is

an arrow on the rewind knob-make sure you are turning it the correct way (clockwise)

Good Camera-have fun

Ahhhh - all becomes clear... How silly do I feel now ;) It was the Release. It is still sat in the vertical. I have ordered a manual for the OM-1, but it is coming from the US - will take a few days to get here.

Well, that has answered it for me :) Thank you John.

I have a little bit of learning to do as I have spent the last 5 years as a digital user - when a 1 megapixel camera was considered high quality - lol :D I am very much used to P&S with little intervention from the user. Not saying that good images cannot be achieved that way, but it just wasn't fun.
