gib Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 Hi, I am just beginning to use some Super Takumar and SMC screw mount lenses with an adapter on my Pentax PZ-1. I understand about the loss of automatic diaphragm and the need to stop down for metering and for taking the shot. I was just curious about other's experience with this kind of combo. Whether people think it is a oddity or a workable way to shoot. I see it as a way to use good quality lenses on a modern body. What opinions are there out there? thanks for responding. regards, Bill
stemked Posted September 3, 2003 Posted September 3, 2003 I do it all the time. I use one of several K-mount cameras with screw mount lenses, MZ-S, ZX-7, LX, Super Program, and occasionally a P30T. There are three screw mount lenses I use a lot, a 16mm f2.8 Russian Screw mount, a 50mm SMC Super Takumar, and my current rage a 500mm f4.5 Takumar. Noteably with the later lens I shot mostly aperture priority (it's enough to keep things in focus manually)and stopping down one or two steps from the widest aperture still is plenty bright for me. I'll admit most of my lenses are K-mount (M, A, F and FA) but it is great having access to cheap screw mount materials. There is a lot of VERY cheap macro screw mount stuff too (extension tubes, bellows, microscope adaptors) that are nice to pick up as well-I use them too. Basically a nice way to build up some great lenses
