Downloading finished Final Cut Express back to camcorder

pathways

Recommended Posts

Unable to download a finished video from either internal or external HD to

camcorder. Can hook VCR up to camcorder, and camcorder to computer and

record directly to VHS, but there is no recording on camcorder when finished.

Any suggesions? Equipment: Emac, Jag 10.2.6,80GB La Cie, Canon ZR50.

When "playing" the finished production back out of the computer, can you observe the video, real-time, on the camcorder's LCD view screen?

You don't actually "download" video from a computer onto video tape; tape runs at a fixed speed, and is linear accessed. The video has to playback at real-time speed from the computer, while the camcorder, set to its 'input' mode with a recordable tape inside, is set to the record mode. A one hour production should take one hour to record to tape.

You should be able to see the incoming video on the camcorder's viewscreen; if not, start looking for the problem between the computer and the camcorder. If you do see the video on the camcorder's screen, make sure the tape's record safety tab is okay to enable recording, and that the camcorder is actually in the record mode.

Since you were able to record to VHS through the camcorder, it sounds like the computer is 'playing' the video okay; I would look more closely at the record mode in the camcorder itself. Make sure the camcorder is set to the input mode, so it 'sees' the computer's video.

Good luck.
