cheap 5x7 processing?

Recommended Posts

Are you asking about processing of 5x7 sheet film or 5x7 prints from 35mm or other film formats?

The cheapest way to get decent b&w prints up to 5x7 in size, maybe a bit larger, is to use a C-41 process chromogenic monochrome film like Ilford XP2 Super or Kodak's stuff and have a good minilab process the film and prints.

Otherwise, my experience is that even pro labs will tend to regard 5x7 proof printing of traditional b&w negatives as undesirable grunt work, to be done as quickly and carelessly as possible. You'll be lucky if your proofs are in focus.

If you're asking about processing of 5x7 sheet film I'm wondering why anyone would bother shooting LF b&w film and not process it themselves?

And while it's reasonable to want decent proof prints from 35mm and rollfilm b&w negs, it's still pretty much a do-it-yourself proposition if you want good results.
