adam lowy
I want to process Pan F with rodinal. The film was shot at iso 50 with one stop added. What development time would you recommend to get good results. Thanks,Adam
stephen hazelton
"shot at ISO 50 with one stop added"- do you mean you shot it at ISO 25? For EI 50, Ilford shows 6 minutes at 1:25 dilution or 11 minutes at 1:50 dilution. This is on their handy data sheet for the film, at: http://www.ilford.com/html/us_english/pdf/Pan_F_Plus.pdf For EI 25, Ilford doesn't show a time, but the Massive Developing Chart at www.digitaltruth.com shows 15 minutes at 1:100 dilution. I've not used Rodinal, perhaps others can confirm if these are reasonable starting points.
richard_urmonas
Agfa claims 5 min in Rodinal 1+25 for EI of 50. For EI25 they give the same time, 15min at 1+100. I haven't done Pan F but these times should be a reasonable start.
chris_waller
There are several previous threads on this. Ollie Steiner is a Pan F/Rodinal man - look him up in this forum and check his times.
tim obrien
Rodinal 1+200 - 2 hours. Agitate the first 30 seconds then go see a movie. Pan F likes to blow out the highlights. Compensation developing is the only way I have gotten a handle on it. tim in san jose
b30307
A great combo in my book! Forget the push or pull routine on Pan-F tho'. Rodinal doesn't work well that way. Stick w/ 50 speed & use the regular development times on the bottle. Rodinal used correctly will give you razor sharp negs w/ gradation that's hard to duplicate w/ any other soup. Unfortunately, it will not forgive your mistakes, (i.e. over/undevelopment will guarantee a visit by the Grain Monster to your darkroom ). Good luck ! group 11
i used to dev panf in rod, but now use pmk. here is the database paste of what i used to use: panf 50 rod 1:25 6min 68f i was using it in a controlled light situation. if your highlights looked threatening, you may want to try 5:30 or even the 5 mentioned above.
